German Shepherd

Thinking of getting a German Shepherd in a few months. I wanna start doing some research. I've always had dogs and just kinda had them. But I want to do it right with my next dogs and really do some training with it.


I've never owned a GSD before. Do any of you here have dogs that you have put through some type of defensive training? was it expensive, did you have to send dog away? did you do it yourself? etc.



Also, back to the GSD topic. Are they good with kids? I'm getting married this November 10 and my fiance and I don't plan on having kids till a year later. Should I wait on getting a dog? Are GSD's good with having a child introduced to the family?

GS are generally good with kids (a lot has to do with their raising, any dog can be a kid hater), but with any dog, I get them as puppies and raise them around the kids. Period.

I would wait.

I'm not sure that I can stretch the definition of "weapon" to include "dog" and still have any meaningful scope here. We've done it before, but I'm uncomfortable with it.
