Greetings. Finally joined THR. I'll be picking up a Yugo captured 98k next week (98/48?). I'm not sure what parts are originally serial numbered, but all that are stamped appear to match. Since the visible German markings are scrubbed, are there any other locations with a date or factory code? Anyone have one? Likes, dislikes?

"No" on the codes, they were just put on the receiver ring. Usually the Yugo K98s will still have WaAs on the trigger and sear, the ejector box, and sometimes the rear sight leaf/ upper part of the base. They were fairly thorough. *IF* all remaining Waffen proofs are the same, chances are they are original to the rifle, and you can track it pretty close by that. All numbers match because what didn't was neatly ground and restamped, unlike the Russian electro-pencil overstamps. Lineouts were common with the Yugo captures.
No reason not to like 'em, so long as you can live with a German rifle with a Yugo crest and prezudece 44 on the receiver and 1TRZ in the stock.

Very neatly done. I couldn't tell any difference. Can't wait to clean it up. It has an old import mark but no cleaning rod.

I have had one for several years, and it was in like new condition. The Yugosalvians DID miss a "dirty bird" on the bolt, so maybe yours will have one there as well. None of the numbers matched on mine, bt the condition was so good, I didn't care.

I have 2 great condition Yugo reworks. Cleaning rods and capture screws all present. Both still have several waffens that didnt get scrubbed off. Both shoot great.

Dumdum303,
You will see when you get it that it's no good. I'll gladly dispose of it for you.:neener:
I mean who wants a German Mauser anyway?
Yugo capture or not it was still made with notoriously shoddy German craftsmanship.

Oh yeah hippie

I had a choice between two of them. The other had a flat buttplate a solid wood stock, much better bluing but had a fairly worn barrel. Very tough choice, but I took the better bore.

My "M98" German/Yugo has finger grooves on the fore end, like a VZ-24. And the "Prezudece 44." It's odd and different from M48s and K98s both.

Cupped; laminate; Wa on rear sight underside- no date anywhere. Or factory code. Just Mod. 98/48.

Low mileage. Wish it could talk.

Function over finish... sounds good to me. Though sometimes the worse bore it's so bad that the pretty wood and blue justify buying the worse bore.
I wish Big John would get something new in. I'm sick of the same old Mosins.
He often sells 98k patchwork rifles-like mine made from different parts. But they are pieced together well and function flawlessly. I imagine they (Big John's mix-n'-match) are similar to what the Serbs did after WWII.
