Click on Abstimmen directly under the dark blue box where it says UMFRAGE on the right hand side.

Poll question:

Ist die Verschärfung des Waffenrechts sinnvoll?

(Translation) Is it sensible to tighten firearms legeslation?

Ja = Yes

Nein = No

Don't forget to click the graphic that says "Abstimmen" (vote) after you've made your selection

"Is it sensible to further restrict firearms legislation?" It seems the answer would be yes, that you want to restrict firearms legislation instead of letting it continue...

As an American, should I vote in a German poll? Are they even wanting me to?

Antigun activist are internationally organized. Those who are against them should also be.

I had four years of German (high) and the way I read it is as Google transulates. But I've not conversed in German for the better part of 20 yrs.

It's all perfectly clear: If you vote "yes," you're either voting for or against stricter gun laws . . . or maybe not.

:confused: :confused: :confused: :confused: :confused:

If you're going to engage in activism, it might be advisable to figure out what the heck you're advocating for or against before you cast a vote

Auf wiedersehen.

Verschärfung

Verschärfung Verschärfung f increase
[+von Gegensätzen] intensification
(=Verschlimmerung) aggravation
[+von Spannung] heightening, mounting
[+von Regeln, Gesetzen] tightening

I don't think this is about restricting legislation.

My German is pretty rusty, but tightening seems to be the more apt interpretation.

I'm certainly not voting "Yes" on that.

OK, I voted (if only because I wanted to look at how it's phrased, and since I was there anyway...)

From a fluent German speaker: the question translates as "Does tightening the gun laws make sense ?". Of course, this remains debatable - one could argue "I am in favor of stricter gun laws but I doubt it would make the country safer, so I'd still have to say No" - but I'd say they want to ask "Do our gun laws have to become stricter ?". To which the answer should be, of course, "Nein" (No).

Indeed, voting "Yes" means tightening access to firearms.

Voting no, keeps things as they are, without making things even worse.

Sorry folks. I went back and edited the original message, to make it clear.

I voted 4 times. It seems that they delete polling records, after 24 hours. We're in a comfortable majority. An editorial commentary, on the poll, will get released in Thursday's edition. As soon as it's released, I'll post the translation

The question has changed and now is; "Härtere Strafen für Gewaltdelikte?"

Which means "Tougher sentences for violent offenses?"

So now maybe the proper answer is "Ja"
