It doesn't specify what an illegal gun is, but I think in New York any handgun that isn't registered is illegal. If Ron Dixon lived in Long Island would he have gotten a mandatory 5 year prison term?

----
Crime Stoppers and the Nassau County Police Department, along with the combined resources of the U.S. Attorneys Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) are seeking the public's help in removing illegal guns from Nassau County communities. Our goal is to reclaim our neighborhoods by removing the deadly link between guns and crime.

Teenagers are more likely to die from gunshot wounds than all natural causes combined. This is your chance to make a difference in your neighborhood.

MANDATORY PRISON TIME FOR AN
ILLEGAL GUN IS 5 YEARS IN FEDERAL PRISON.

Crime Stoppers will pay a reward of up to $2000,00 for information leading to the arrest of a person(s) involved with an illegal gun. Callers do not have to reveal their identity or testify in court.

Wasnt aware thet gunshot wounds were a NATURAL cause.

But then I could also say more teenagers die from car accidents, than gunshots and all natural causes combined.

It isn't saying that gunshots are a natural cause. However it is also not pointing out that not a whole lot of teenagers die of natural causes anyway (cancer, disease, heart conditions, etc).

Gee, wouldn't it be a shame if some anti-gun folks up there were ratted-out by their neighbors for having a bunch of empty shell casings in their yards, and investigated by the cops? :D I'm sure that you all share my concern that something like this shouldn't occur, that they shouldn't have to see how abusive the police can be regarding guns (esp. in the NY area) and how expensive it is to hire a criminal attorney, but you all know how hypocritcal some of those folks can be - I'll bet that most of them own guns, probably illegally. :what:

If they're sending people to the federal pen, then it would have to be for a federally illegal gun, unless I'm missing something. Wouldn't violation of NY's commie gun laws send you to Sing Sing or Attica?

Or is there some weird codicil to gun laws that allows people who break state, but not federal, gun laws to go to federal prison?

Langenator shares my first thought on this. Since when does violating a state law have a federal punishment? It's not like the federal law is the same in every state. In NH you don't need squat to own a firearm.

EDIT: Okay, so it looks like they mean persons who are prohibited, by federal statute, from owning firearms, such as convicted felons and those under the age of 18. Too bad the notice doesn't clarify this.

Of course not. People aren't going to rat out someone that they know will back in the hood in a year. Damned police...only care about someone else doing their job for them. :fire:

This is nothing more than one more snitch line to be added to the plethora of snitch lines that already exist; and to be overshadowed by the vast numbers of snitch lines yet to come.

Get used to it.

Man that sounds familiar. Some country in central Europe tried this in the late 1930's I think... I forget the name though.

i heard they got rid of a few million enemies of the state though.

"Yas, snitch line? I vas vatchink out my vindow und der vas dis neighbor und I tink he vas hidink guns in his attic. Ja, I seen him vit mine own eyes. He's got a whole bunch of zem hidink up der. You better get over here schnell."

Ah, but the cost of moving to another neighborhood will cost more than $2000. And after the move there is no guarantee the bad guys won’t search school rosters and welfare records in an effort to track you down. Knowing what I know about corruption in LE, you will be exposed.

A snitch doesn’t last long in the targeted neighborhoods of N.Y. or any neighborhood for that matter. My guess is that this project will result in more crime and more bloodshed and more death of the people they are supposedly trying to protect. SOP.

Natural causes!

Master Blaster learned something today. In some of those 'hoods, gun shot wounds/death are natural causes. Didn't you know that?

And the school papers all have obituary columns. 'Course nobody can read 'em, but they're there......or is that there their.....or there there,,,or their they're??

jes joshin'

They're waiting there for their gunshots. Naturally.

If you don't believe in what you refer to as snitching, then I'd like to know if you believe in testifying in court as a witness? Would you report a robbery in progress? How about a fire at an orphanage?

Do you believe in cleaning up our communities? How are we going to do it? Vigilantes?

John

A robbery in progress or a fire at an orphanage are a far FAR *FAR* cry from reporting a neighbour who owns a firearm simply because he realizes that the only one who can reasonably protect him is HIM. There are things that are "bad in themselves" (malum in se; rape, robbery, murder, etc.) and then there are things that are "bad" only because the government has DEEMED them to be bad (malum prohibitum; owning an AR in California, owning a "post-ban" rifle with a folding stock and a bayonet lug  )
Nightfall's link should make a lot of people think; if you ever reach the point where you have to hide your guns from the government, you've already passed the point where you should use them.

To me, the only illegal gun is the one that has been used to commit a crime. All other guns should be legal to carry or whatever.
I know, most states have laws that says my way of thinking is wrong.
I disagree with them.
