Hi-res is here: http://www.olegvolk.net/gallery/various/alarm

I like the concept a lot. Some little things in the execution I find jarring.

It's good that the dog's ears are back but she's (he's ?) not apparently baring teeth. Says alert but not vicious. But the posture seems wrong. Down on the floor like that says playing to me, not guarding. (I admit, I'm no dog expert. This is just my impression.)

Also, having the gun laying on the same floor, obviously next to the (apparently playing) dog looks unsafe. Perhaps one of those cuts you're so good at... whole shot of guarding dog or close-up of head/face on one side, gun held in a person's hand on the other.

An even smaller nit: the two fonts don't work well together. Dunno if you need a slight serif font to bump up the contrast between them or an even blockier sans serif.

Yeah,

I'd split the composition as well. A separate shot of the dog at an ideal angle, and same for the gun. Perhaps both on the same white background so they can be photoshopped into the same frame easily.

You might want to make it a handgun, perhaps a nice PC-looking revolver, although a pump 12ga is also about the most PC as it has heavy sporting and rural connotations as well. It's just that as you probably know, and much better than I, long guns are difficult to frame properly in their entirety.
