So, I stocked up on 5.45x39 and some uppers three years ago in anticipation of the ammo price run up, specter of renewed AWB, etc etc.

So now .223 has come down in price quite a bit since the peak, and 5.45 has seen a slight increase since the low.

What would you do?

(1) just hold - never know what's gonna happen, and 5.45 is cheap, stable in long term storage, fun to shoot

(2) sell the stuff - and plow the $ back into a smaller amount of the ammo we all know and love - .223

(3) Something else???

Hmmmmmm............

Nah if you like it keep it up. I'll keep mine and ammo is plenty for now. More people are getting into the 5.45x39 craze so maybe the name brand ammo guys will get in on it too like Hornaday.

The caliber is getting more popular than ever. In fact, it shoots way better than the 5.56. Very mild recoil and a smile from everyone who squeeze the tirgger. Knowing it cost less and is a hoot to shoot.

I will be keeping my 5.45 for a long time. I have about 6000 rounds of milsurp saved up for that rainy day situation, and I shoot mainly Tula that I can get locally for 3.99/20, in HP or FMJ. I love this round and I hope more people jump on the band wagon.

I put a great deal of thought into getting one, and ultimately decided it wasn't a great enough departure from the .223Rem./5.56NATO which I already shoot, nor was there a great enough difference in cartridge cost...especially if you want to shoot NC ammo. Furthermore 7.62x39mm (which I also already shoot) has been steadily creeping closer to the cost of 5.45x39.5mm.

That said, you already own one and ammo to go with it, so there is absolutely no reason not to use up what you already have; at which time you can decide whether to sell out and swap cartridges or stick with it.

:)

I went through this dilemma when I discovered reloading for my AK in x39 was an exercise in futility...get something in 5.45 or 5.56.

Considering the only source of 5.45 (that I'm aware of) is from foreign sources and not reloadable, I opted for the 5.56 and AR platform.

How much do one of those uppers cost?? Lookinf for something to blast with. How do you like them?
