I'm considering getting one. What is the process like? Do they inspect your home before issuing the license? (to see where the firearms will be stored?) How does it work? I want to obtain one to get collector guns (WWII guns mostly).

If you're in Crook County, it may be an issue. You must notify your local Chief LEO. The other issue is that many shops won't even sell to anyone living in Crook. If you're outside of Crook, then it's a non-event. Just send the paperwork in.

It is easy, fun and cheap. See here.

So, you wish to join the ranks of the few, the proud, the Type 03 FFL holders. . . the CRUFFLERS???? Ok. Repeat after me, three times: "To live is to cruffle, to cruffle is to live. . . ."

But it can become addictive. I've had mine since 2006 and have bought dozens of C&R firearms. Thanks to Obama, virtually all have increased in value.

Of course, this is no guaranty for the future. But at $10 a year and home delivery, it's a great value.

Go for it. ;)

Nothing much to it. Go to ATF.gov and request the forms. You complete, enclose a check, and deliver a copy to your CLEO. That's it. No fingerprint card, no schematics of your home's layout. In short order, you'll get your license and a FAT STACK of laws, rules & regs to read. When ordering from IL you'll need to send a copy of your FOID and a DL to most outfits you buy from/deal with along with a signed copy of your FFL-3. Some people/a few companies won't honor your FFL-3 for various reasons that amount to "cause I said so" and won't sell eligible C&R guns to you directly. I don't mind this at a LGS dealing face-to-face, but won't bother with folks (I refer to them as 'yahoos') who sell online but NOT to C&R's. Thankfully, these are few and far between. It's a very cheap license to have but you'll start spending and spending on things you never knew you needed before you had the type-3.

I have never had anyone ask for my Illinois FOID when using my C&R. It is an FFL and should supersede the FOID. You will need to keep a bound book to record all C&R purchases and sales. You do not enter C&R guns that you purchased before you got your C&R, however if you sell one after you have the C&R you must enter it in the book as having come from your collection and log it out to the buyer. Sounds more complicated than it is. I keep similar records on all guns just to cover my back side. As stated, you will buy more guns with it. Love mine.
