Getting another 6.5x55 Swede... but which one?

I certainly wouldn’t turn down a 557 if one was given to me but since they are push feed the allure isn’t there anymore.

I agree, I'm sure it's a fine rifle, and push feed does not bother me, but... coming from the 550, I can't help feeling like it's a "downgrade", removal of a feature, and that bothers me.

Well it got to my ffl today so id my 4473 ever comes back approved I can go pick up that and my shotgun. On day 11 now. Longest its ever taken before was 7 days.

get a set of extenion weaver rings ,to set the scope closer to the rear., you will not regret it.

That's an idea. I thought about throwing a picatinny rail on there to make swapping scopes between this and a couple other rifles easier but I guess I'd still have to deal with the ends of the scope hitting the rail unless I used tall enough rings so that's really not a solution.

i use these extenstion weaver rings on my ruger #3 in 45-70 with ex results.

These things came on it. I have no idea what they are so I put on some Talley bases I had rings for. If and when I put a different scope on I'll think about the Weavers!

Those are the old school, either Leupold or Millet Stabdard dovetail or turn in rings, mounts. They work, but by today’s standards...they are garbage. Then again...so are Weaver!

Picatinny or Fixed are the only way to go. Sorry to hurt some feelings... ..especially you Burris Weaver ring folks.

I had Picatinnys on everything for a while when I was wheeling and dealing buying selling and trading a lot. They're convenient for moving scopes around and are a good solid platform. I liked them on my modern rifles, but didn't care that much for them on my bolt guns. I started using the Talley bases and rings on those, but I am kind of rethinking that attitude now though.

Honestly, one-piece mounts are the strongest, & most ridged setup. I use a one piece Picatinny, cantilever mount on my AR.

I believe they are Leupold STD and while they aren’t normally my first choice, they are far from being garbage and occasionally are one of the best choices if one needs additional windage adjustment.

your dollar, get what makes you happy, but to run down other makers bases-rings makes no sense. all the different rings-bases i use have been rock solid or they are not on any of my rifles-shotguns.

I’m in the process of very slowly converting the two piece bases on my bolt action rifles to Warne or EGW one piece picatinnys. I’ve not had any issues with ejection. I don’t like the look but I like not having to worry if a scope I like is going to fit.

My CZ 550 is the only rifle that will stay two piece. If I run across a one piece picatinny that doesn’t raise the height of the scope compared to the 550 proprietary ring mounts I’ll eventually change out the 550 too.

These gun purchases seem to come in spurts. As soon as I buy one I find another and another. I just finished my search for a shotgun this morning and during my gun broker searches I noticed something else.

I've got my eyes on both a Remington 700 Classic and a Winchester Model 70 XTR Featherweight chambered in 6.5x55 swede.

The Winchester is in good shape and the bore looks perfect. The Remington is still NIB and substantially more expensive. Would it be worth the extra cost?

Would either be worth the extra price vs something a bit cheaper like a Tikka T3x or CZ?
I wouldnt buy a Winchester without cycling the bolt in person. Some of them the lock up feels good, some it feels "loose".

Can be harder to top load if that is a consideration for you

I haven’t had a problem but none of my rifles have the small loading/ejection port that the Axis II, RAR, 783 and others have.

I don’t have that loading problem. My Action is anchored in an Aluminum Chassis, uses AICS 10rd mags, and it’s own built in 20moa rail. Works for me. :)
