So I am getting close to the end of my AR build. I built the lower from a DPMS stripped lower and DPMS LPK, and a basic 6-pos stock. I am trying to do the build on some what of a budget. I was planning on getting a DPMS m4 style flat top upper(complete). I may have found a deal(more or less a guy who has it in stock) on a RAA CAR A4 upper(complete). Would the RAA upper be worth the extra money over the DPMS? Would the RAA on top of the DPMS lower even be worth it? I am not a fan of the light weight barrels. I like the M4 style but not needed. What is the barrel like on the RAA CAR A4?

just a quick pic of the progress:

All the competitive shooters in this region shoot USPSA 3-gun using an M-4 profile barrel. Stages are as much as 300 yards in range, and they are competitively accurate with 55 grain bullets. Don't be afraid of an M-4 profile. The funny shape is designed to help control vibration, and it shoots remarkably well. Unless you're going to load 77 grain SMK bullets up against the rifling lands, and shoot single-shot at 600 yards. That's a different barrel.

I like the M4 barrels, I dont like the "lightweight" barrels, I was wondering what kind of barrel the RAA CAR A4 has, it doesn't have the M4 profile but It does not seem to be the lightweight one either.

How is the quality of Del-Ton, CMMG, DMPS? Is RAA worth the extra money?(if I could get one in the $450 range)

First time I've ever heard anything other than its simply to allow the grenade launcher to mount...

For just a plinker fun gun I'd buy whatever is cheap with a good reputation, dpms would be fine. If you don't like light profile barrels maybe consider a medium contour that puts the weight in a more beneficial location than the m4 profile.

that's funny. all the competitive shooters I've seen are using 17-18" barrels with compensators

I've noticed that in other regions, taliv. I guess it's a preference thing, depending upon how stages are set up and all the other variables. Each competitor finds the combination that works for him or her.
