Getting ready for pigs with an AR-308 and Remington Hog Hammer 168gr TSX

With results like those shown below I'm in no rush to work up a pig/deer hunting load for my POF P308. I wanted to check zero with three different loads so I began with a five round group using the Hog Hammer load, adjusted the scope and then tried to put two more shots into the center of the group. I started out with a "cold", clean bore and all rounds were shot from the magazine in a little over a minute. The POF likes this load. If I took my time and single fed the rounds I could most likely reduce the group to around an inch. I also shot some Remington 150gr CLUB and Remington Premier Match 168gr BTHP both of which shot about 1-1/2" lower but with near perfect windage.

Here's the Remington Premier Match group shot directly after the Hog Hammer group. The first shot was the low one but it settled down quickly. Some rifles seem to be finicky when you mix and match loads. Overall I'm really pleased with the POF and the ammunition I used today.

It's a Patriot Ordnance Factory (POF) P308 with a 20" Rock Creek barrel, Geissele DMR trigger, Leupold Mark 4 3.5-10x40mm Front Focal scope, NightForce Ultralight rings and a Magpul PRS.

Have you had to play with the adjustable gas block much, if any?

The gas plug (FAL type) only has two positions, N for normal and S for suppressed. I've never tried the S setting mostly because the ejection is quite soft anyway. The rifle runs like a sewing machine is one of the smoothest semi-autos I've ever shot.

That is a great elk round let alone poor little pigs. Nice rifle and groups. I shoot elk with a 308 with the 150g ttsx...great bullet.

believe me, you really don't want a hog infestation like we got, and once you have hogs, eventually you will have an out of control situation. I kill em every day in my cattle pastures and even my little .17hmr with a good shot puts em down like a hammer.

The scope looks low because it's close to the rail but the rail is a proprietary POF design (M.R.R.)which adds about 1/2" to the top of the receiver. With the NightForce medium rings (1" to center) plus 1/2" due to the M.R.R., the center of the scope sits 1-1/2" from the top of the receiver which is where a LaRue QD LT104 mount would put it on a standard receiver.

POFs are amazing. They would be my first stop if I was looking for a semiauto .308 (to replace the LRB m14 I already love of course).

ive loaded the tsx in 5 different rifles and have achieved 1 in or better , great bullets. have you ever tried the nos accubonds?
