I am finally going to set up my Dillon 550 after 8 years in storage. My wife and I began USPSA and 3 gun shooting this spring and the ammo cost is killing us. Since it has been in storage, it needs to be cleanup up, lubed, etc. Any suggestions on what I should do? I need to get a new scale. Probably 10 years ago I tried an electronic scale and was not impressed. Have they improved or should I just get the mechanical scale. They worked fine for me before and probably should now. I will most likely be loading 45acp, 9mm and maybe .223.

I've had trouble with the 2 electronic scales Ive had. I always end up back at the beam.

Yes, there are better electronic scales on the market as well as junk.

I think the GemPro 250 is probably the best of the precision scales for the money. These have a 0.02gr accuracy. Normally you don't need this accuracy till you get under 5gr charges. Then the accuracy tolerance of scales come into play. These have a 30yr/Lifetime warranty to back it up. Now with these precision scales there are a sensitive and are not made to be bounced around.

There is another thread going on scales.

As for the press you could send to Dillon have them go through it. Or just clean it up and see what needs attention.

The bigger problem is finding supplies.

I got a Pact BBK digital back in the early 90's. My beam has collected dust ever since. I haven't used it once since then.

I have a fairly new Pact and an RCBS digital scale. I still find myself using my old RCBS 505 balance scale to check the digitals. Can't teach an old dog new tricks I guess.

I've got an old RCBS scale that has been spot on for ions. OTOH, my electronic has been anything but trust worthy. Check weights should put your mind at ease if you have doubts about an old beam scale you might still have.
