So, the big b-day is right around the corner, and I'd like to get myself something that is a little extravagant. I have quite a few handguns, and I tend much more toward handguns than long guns, so I was thinking of picking up a Desert Eagle in .44 mag. Yeah, I know, getting it in 50AE would be the perfect caliber for a 50th birthday, but cost and availability or ammo urges me to really go for the .44 mag.

I'd like to get some feedback from you DE owners. Pros & Cons of ownership??? Anything to watch out for. I'm looking at the very modest basic blued finish....nothing fancy like the gold, chrome or tiger stripe finish...

Congratulations! I always wanted to find a gun that I liked, made in the year that I was born.

Thanks! Hummm....That's an intersting thought....I wonder what guns came out the year I was born? Does anyone know of a website that posts the year new guns came out. I'd be looking for a 1959 release year.

If you get a chance try looking for a Gun Digest from 1959. Or even for back issues of American Rifleman, Guns, and Guns and Ammo. I believe all these magazines were being published back then and could give you an idea what was new for that year.

If I bought a DE, it would have to be the big dog, especially it being an auto cartridge and all, and having seen them fired. It has a pretty good thump to it. But I'd like a .44 barrel for it as well.

I recommend a .50AE with a .44Mag barrel. :D

Great suggestion, Outerlimit! I really like that idea. I just called Magnum Research, and appearently only the new models (Mark XIX), allow the swap in barrels between the .50AE and the .44 Mag. That was good info to log away.

I turned 54 this month so if I went by caliber it's looking like muzzle loader time. :neener: Hey, there's an idea! Have you considered an nice .50cal Hawken or Kentucky rifle?

well, it doesn't work for me - I keep buying .45's but I'm still 65 ..... sheeeeesh....

It's easy to find a gun from the year you were born in. Go to gunbroker and punch in your year in the search, and click the advanced seach to include descriptions.

I'd pass on the guns and get a YOUNG CHIC!!!
Turning 50 means you can buy any gun you want and on the way to the Gun Store stop by the Harley shop and pick up a new Bike

Great thoughts and suggestions, but I already have a young chick. I robbed the craddle a few years back. And, by the way, we both ride bikes. I have a Honda VTX 1800, and she rides a Yamaha Roadstar 1600. And incidentally, she's the one that suggested I get a Desert Eagle! What a woman! :D
