Well, I'm getting rid of my XD9 because I just don't trust it anymore. I already had to sent it to Springfield twice. Both times to get the extractor replaced. Now, I'm looking for another 9mm replacement. I already have an HKUSPF and BHP. What fullsize or compact 9mm would you recommend thats around the $500 mark to keep the wife happy?

So I'm looking for a fullsize or compact 9mm that is around the $500 mark because the wife just bought a CZ 527 varmint.

Before I forget no CZ's. They are the only semi-auto's that I have found that don't fit me at all.

I recently purchased a used glock 19 from the gun shop. It really is an absolutely wonderful gun. Used for <500 on one of those is easy.(350-400~)
I have an XD .45 which I havent had any problems with, and I got the glock because I couldnt find an xd9SC anywhere in town used and i didnt want to spend that much.

I'd look at the Glock 19, and S&W M&P 9mm. You might also look for a used 1911 in 9mm, or a used SIG P228 or P239, all of which should be in the $500 neighborhood.

Yeah, look at a Glock... what I find strange is a BHP fits, but a CZ doesn't? They are so similar... I don't see how that could be... But, you did just say you "have one," you made no reference to how it fits you...

As always, Glock or SIG. HK if you can deal with the mag release and don't have any other guns. Smith makes an ok pistol, but it's price doesn't make sense.

I'll add that you may want to look at a CZ-75 Compact. I know you said no CZs, but my reasoning follows. My BHP fits me well. Every CZ-75 or 85 I've handled has been a bit tall/long in the grip with a long reach to the safety lever, and they just didn't fit me. A CZ-75 compact recently came into the shop and it's a very nice fit for me. You may want to give the 75 Compact a look if you haven't yet.

I recently purchased a Glock 19 in like new condition for $450 with night sights. Upon my first trip to the range, I was blown away. This is by far my favorite gun I own, out of my Springfield Loaded, Sig P220, Sig P226 9mm, and more. I have to admit, I haven't given the Loaded a fair shake cause it needs to be sighted in, but I really love the Glock.

Beretta PX4 Storm

full size but not huge, 17 rounds and has 20 round factory mags

Can be scored for around $500

Otherwise another vote for Glock 19

Another vote for a Sig. You can find a used or maybe a CPO for $500. I've got two 229's, one of which is for sale to fund a 1911 purchase, and they both shoot great, a 9mm and a .357. I would also look at a Kahr. Great little guns. Mine's been flawless so far.

I've got the XD 9 and had no trouble with it at all. Shot the snot out of it too in all kinds of factory ammo.

What kinda ammo are you shooting when the extractor broke? I'm thinking there may be a problem of too much pressure causing the case to expand in the chamber, thus extra wear on the extractor. This ISN'T YOUR Fault, just trying to diagnose the problem so the rest of us can avoid it, you should be able to shoot whatever ammo you want through your guns without any issues like a broken extractor.

I'd vote for a CZ75 clone from Armalite! I want someone else to try them out before I buy one ;-)

I need to put in a vote for the Stoeger 8000 Cougar. I have put just about 1500 rounds of the cheapest 9mm i could find through it and it is just about perfect. It is easy to shoot accurately, fits me very well and before i forget, i only paid $340. Another point that is easily forgotten in this kind of threads, I can fieldstrip it and put it back together in under 1 min. Some things to think about....

I would go with the M&P either full or compact whichever you prefer. The grip can be adapted to about anyone's hand, it's well-built, well-backed and very comfortable to shoot which leads to shooting well with it faster.

HK P-2000 period. Once you shoot this gun nothing else matters.

I would say

The P2000, but your $500 requirement kind of kills that. I would look at a Beretta 92. They can be found new for a few bucks less than 500. I liked mine a lot, but it was too bulky for me.
