just picked up a remington 700 sendero in 270 win. just going to use it out to about 300 yards. i picked up a rock moutian bipod for it and the kwik clip setup (10 round detachable mag) any tips on getting very accurate shots from this gun? any accessorys that would do well for me? besides a leupold :) i have a barska 6x24x50 going on it i know i know not the best but not everyone can afford a really nice scope. keep in mind the sendero comes with a HS stock.

I have the same gun/caliber and have not had much success with getting it to shoot consistently. After trying, literally 2 dozen loads, I am going to get it bedded and the action checked. It drives me nuts, becuase I have spent a lot of money on it by adding a Jewell Trigger, quality scope, tactical bolt knob, bipod, and countless hours on the range trying to get it to shoot decent. All I can say is, good luck!...Start by checking the trigger and think about lightening it down.

Triple S - Just out of curiousity what kind of groups did you get with yours? You should be getting moa with any good factory rounds, if you do your part.

My gun averages 2 1/2" 3 shot groups at 100 yards. The reason I think it needs bedding is because of the type of groups it shoots. With the same load, it will print clusters, then 10 minutes later, will shoot strings, then later it will throw 2 touching a flyer 3 inches away. To some this may not sound too bad, but I bought this particular rifle to be a 500 yard, stand white-tail gun. I do not take shots anywhere near that far with it becuase I do not have the confidence in the rifle.

You are right, that's real crappy accuracy. Kinda sounds like something is loose. Or over tightened...like the bolts holding the action in the stock. They should have correct torque or otherwise you will have inconsistent groups...

Your stock should already have aluminum bedding blocks...I doubt it would help to glass bed...

I had a Remington 700 BDL in 308 some years ago with a bent barrel. It would shoot nine out of ten shots into 1 inch...but the first shot was always 8-9 inches high and left.

If you bought it new, contact Remington.

If used, have a competent gunsmith check it out for you.

make sure it is freefloated, even after about 5 quick shots, and you heat it up, on the range. , take a few pieces of sandpaper to the range with you, in case you have to do some sanding on the spot. Also it may like a little pressure point up front under the bbl, at the tip of the stock. But first, try all possible ammo factorywise out, to see which it likes best; of the cheaper factory ammo anyway. once you find one it likes well, then try the pressure point up front, to see if it shrinks your groups anymore. it may, or it may not.

Hey Triple S, you might have the crown checked. I've seen several guns come from the factory with a ding in the crown that caused the same problem. It's a quick and pretty inexpensive fix though. If that isn't it, then bedding will probably work.

As far as gadgets that will make the gun shoot for you, there aren't any. The gun will do what you put in to it. Nothing beats good fundamentals. You have to be careful of all the gadgets out there that make people think it will make them a better shooter. Most of them only make money for the seller. Whatever helps you take a god solid rest to hold the sight or crosshair on the target spot is about all you need. A good sling or bipod. A clear scope that holds it zero is also necesarry, but you don't have to spend an arm and a leg for it.

I've got a Sendero in 7mag with a Tasco world class scope. It's held it's zero for three years and is still very clear. It shoots plain jane remington 140grn sp ammo in 1/2 inch 100 yard groups. It's got a good leather sling that I can wrap up in to get the rifle steady. Took a nice 8 point with it the other day at 247 yards. It was a standing shot with nothing for support except the sling. Learn how to use a sling, even in conjunction with a bipod, and that's the biggest shooting aid that you can have along with accurate ammo.

I'm not as concerned as muct with group size as I am with were that first cold barrel shot goes. I sight it in that way. Fire a shot, then swab it and let it cool so the next shot will be just as if I took it out of the case for that first shot.
