Giant Squirrels...

Anyone stumble across a giant squirrel in their hunts?

This may be the largest I've taken, measured over 12" high sitting.....from tip of his tail to his nose he would be over 24" long. Girth (Chest) measured 10"+....no idea how much he weighed. Had him mounted as proof they do exist.

It's good you got that bully out of the gene pool. All those other squirrels wouldn't have stood a chance making it through the winter.

I've seen fox squirrels that big and bigger.

Wow...that is a big squirrel!

Looks a lot like the one that attacked me when I was a boy out hunting in my Great Grandmas land near Carey Ohio. Use to be Wyandot Indian land. Very near to where Colonel William Crawford's defeat occurred. Grandpa warned me about going out there with just my 22lr. But I thought it was just a tall tale. CCI stingers wouldn't even penetrate it's pelt. I had to ditch my gear just to lighten the load and get out of there. I can still hear that squirrel following me in the trees (think predator ). Makes the hair on my neck stand up just thinking about it...shiver.

That is probably an average "mature" Fox Squirrel for around here....but then... this is TEXAS.

were just a joke to keep you out of prime squirrel country!

I've seen a few that size down by the river cornfields.
some of the 'white/albino' that are around here get near or at that size too.
