My first baby is due September 13 and I want to get her a little cricket .22 with the pink stock. http://www.crickett.com/ I want to start her on gun safety early. I found it on sell at gander mountain for a good price but we dont have one here. My grandfather in texas lives 10 min. away from Gander so how can I have him legally pick one up for me? I can't get down there until the sale is over.

If you are also in Texas, no problem, as long as...

grandpa gifts the rifle.

If you give him money then it could be a "strawman" purchase on a technicality.

Then it must be transferred to you through a Louisiana FFL, and you may then feel free to pay him, but you can't go "pick it up" in Texas.

Jumping the gun a little? :)

The kid's not born yet, and you need to get the rifle already? It'll go on sale again, before she masters toilet training, walking, stuff like that.

If you pay grandpa to buy the gun, then you pick it up from him and transfer it across a state line, that's at least two laws broken.

How much would you save? What's the sale price and regular price for a Cricket?

I suggest waiting until she is old enough to pick the color herself. My eight year old daughter picked out a nice grey laminate Cricket for herself (She is pretty girly and likes pink but not in a rifle apparently). They are pretty nice little rifles to learn on, although loading one at a time gets somewhat tiresome. I let my daughter shot my TC Benchmark the last time out and she has decided that is her rifle now!

What if I had a grandfather that lived in Louisana and I lived in Arkansas and he gave me one of his old guns.
Is that breaking a Federal law?

Yes, since 1968.

If you're not sure about the legality of it, consult a lawyer. We're not lawyers (but I'm sure a few of us ARE lawyers) but ask a lawyer who knows the LA/TX laws. They might charge you a little bit but it's better than having the BATFE show up and arresting you, your daughter and grandfather.

A lawyer will charge you more than the price of said rifle. Also, I sincerely doubt the BATFE is going to find an unborn child cupable for an illegal arms transfer.

You're saving what, $20 off the rifle by getting it in Texas? That's not even worth the hassle. Put the $100 in Saving Bonds or something and let the girl pick out her own rifle when the time comes if that's what she wants.

+1 on letting the child pik out the color. My daughter is also very favorable to pink and girliness, but said she thought the pink rifles were tacky (I have no sense of esthetics). She wanted something with nice wood and a bit more class.

Also, crickets terrify me. The one we have in my family (can't remember who it technically belongs to), has about a zero pound trigger pull. It didn't used to be that light, but as time wore on, it took less and less to set it off. I figure in a few more years, just bringing ammo near the rifle will cause the ammo to explode.

Duh! that's what warrantys and gunsmiths are for.

EEEEEK I guess I better get my single shot...er...JC HIGGINS Something checked out. She's got a hair trigger like it's cool. It is educational, it shows me how much trigger jerk/recoil anticipation I have with other rifles when I have perfect sight alignment/sight picture. At 25 yards, I can hit a trachea sized target 5 out of 5 times (25 yds isn't too much but it's all my range has). And please don't tell me to word the above statment otherwise, I had a vital signs target I was shooting at.

Discretion will avoid many of life's problems. I would not worry about it; it's a rifle for your daughter not an illegal arms deal. Keep everything private and within the family, its not any of governments business.

Congradulations for your daughter. Good job geting her started early.
