Girl Says She Used Hammer To Escape Kidnapper

Great story, but I have a hard time believing that schools today would teach people to look around them for weapons.
I went to high school in the early 70's in Massachusetts (of all places.) We had co-ed gym classes, with 2 or 3 choices of different classes we could take each semester. One was basic self defense. They taught arm twists, palm of the hand under the nose, stomp on the in steep, things like that. Also what common objects can be used a weapons; rat tail comb handle, broken bottle (!), even a tightly rolled up magazine jabbed in the face like a billy club. The basic tactics the gym teachers taught were get hit the attacker hard someplace that hurts, then run as fast as you can towards other people, screaming as loud as you can. Sounds similar to what the girl in this story did.

I saw this and couldn't resist.

all together now

bang bang maxwells silver hammer came down upon his head
bang bang maxwells silver hammer made sure he was dead

If she learned it in school, it was probably from a LEO teaching children to be wary of strangers.

If I had a hammer

With due copyright to Pete Seegar and Lee Hays....

If I had a hammer
I'd hammer in the morning
I'd hammer in the evening
All over this land
I'd hammer out danger
I'd hammer out a warning
I'd hammer out love between my brothers Legs and watch him scream and shout
All over this land

Come on! Everyone sing!

This sounds improbable to me. She may have only had a bad dream and believes it to be real. My wife dreamt about me with another woman back in the 70s and still believes it really happend.

Wait...what?!

Please, please, oh PLEASE, DO NOT let this guy belong to the SCA.

We don't need that kind of publicity.

Well, a few months ago here, there was one who got into a road rage incident. They pulled their sword out of their car, threatened to "run through" the other driver with it, and then used it to pop their tire. :scrutiny:

Bad chief, Good girl

I wonder when most of the world will figure out that a police chief is usually a political appointee, mouthing platitudes for the mayor holding his leash, and usually of lesser practical experience than most cops, since he's focused on sucking up to politicians, and therefore, his advice is politically motivated and of less value.

my wife read this in the paper and said now she understood why I have always kept a framing hammer inthe car. My response was that his groin would have been the second target. I would have played Dentist first.

My grandmother was over 85 when she surprised me one day, saying a convicted rapist should be put in a leaky small boat filled with rocks and have his appendage nailed to the seat. He was then to be pushed to sea and handed a dull rusty knife, and told, "Its your choice."

I can't imagine his intentions were good if she saw a need to whack his jewels.

If there was a "he" in the first place. At first glace, the description she gave seemed to me to be pretty...I dunno, dramatic.

I realize that I tend to be a natural skeptic, but when there's zero reported corraboration: no one reported her yelling, his screaming, etc...

It's possible the news just isn't reporting any of it too, I guess...<shrug>

Things like that do happen, so there's no reason to assume it's false.

Depending on location, there very well may not have been other witnesses.

The drama isn't excessive--no claim that she struggled mightily, fought him off from handcuffs, etc. Liars tend to be dramatic.

I'm inclined to give it credence. The physical description isn't unreasonable. Anyone know if there was a followup article or arrest? Ask the paper?
