Giuliani to Face the N.R.A.

I'm not concerned so much about the 2nd Amend. stand of whoever gets into the White House as I am about who gets into Congress. Sure, the President is the party leader, but we all know that laws originate in and get passed by the legislature. Personally, I thing Rudy is a base opportunist trying to cash in on whatever fame he milked off of 9/11, and I wouldn't vote for him on bet. It's my legislators I'm keeping a close eye on.

I know its not popular here fellas, but there is more at stake than just gun rights. ...

I just think Rudy is the smartest, most eloquent, candidate that is most right on most of the issues (except gun control) and he happens to give us the best shot to win.

Yes indeed, there is much more at stake than just gun rights. But gun rights are a good weathervane for predicting how a candidate once elected will treat other individual rights. Even some familiarity with Giulani's record as U.S. attorney and then as mayor of New York City shows him to be an authoritarian who cares little about other people or their rights of any kind. Giulani will make the trains run on time according to the schedule he determines and the people be damned.

That's also Giulani's position on gun rights. Given a choice between Giulani on the one hand and any of the leading Democratic presidential contenders on the other, I am not sure that I would vote for him. Michael Bloomberg was Giulani's hand picked successor as New York City's mayor. Giulani would be head of the Republican Party and might push Bloomberg again, and I don't think that either this country or the Republican Party could survive Giulani succeeded by Bloomberg.

And your gun rights would be long gone as well.

Who is this "us" you speak of?

I can think of very few things more dangerous than a Democrat controlled congress coupled with an authoritarian anti-gun president. They'll have a handgun ban and long-gun registration bill on his desk (actually, he might help write it) within a month and he'll gleefully sign it -- and they will call it "bipartisan".

I would vote for Hillary before I'd vote for Rudy. (don't worry, I'm not gonna vote for her.) With a Democrat in the White House, they lose the illusion of bipartisan support for gun control, and the Dem's don't want to get spanked like they did back in 1994 (I think that's the year it was.)

Giuliani broke the mob, cleaned up NY, put a bucket load of criminals in jail, made the city safe at night, took on the unions, and provided leadership when the city and country needed it and answerd public questions directly and bluntly when he was in office.

I met him at a fundraiser earlier this year where he spoke without notes and answered questions. Smart strong guy who says what he thinks. He might not be a perfect choice but he is a good man.

I'm not suprised he's gonna talk to the NRA. Good for him.

I will be at that event. The guests are: Senator John McCain, Senator Fred Thompson, Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Governor Mike Huckabee, Governor Mitt Romney (videotaped message), Governor Bill Richardson (videotaped message), Congressman Duncan Hunter (videotaped message), Speaker Newt Gingrich, Attorney General John Ashcroft, Senator Mitch McConnell, Senator John Thune, Congressman John Dingell, Congressman Harold Ford, Jr., Governor Haley Barbour, Senator John Barrasso, Governor James Gilmore, and Glenn Beck.

One of my first questions will be about Ron Paul. Why is he missing?

Bingo! This is what a lot folks fail to grasp about him. Individual rights are not big on this guy's agenda. He is a socialist in sheep's clothing. Do not let this guy fool you. Not to mention that his foreign policy credentials (if he ever had ones) go out the window with his "they attack us because of our freedom". During the general election, this will surely rally the crowds...the 6 year-olds.

“His history is of enforcing gun laws, not of gun control,”

Then why was there more gun laws made after '94 R.J.? We all know criminals don't care what the law says about the piece they use. And I heard the Clinton gun ban was so effective!

Also, here I thought it was the NRA that had the campaign to enforce the existing thousands of gun laws on the books, not make more! Way to try and blend in with the gun crowd Kerr...er...Rudy.

One question: has Rudy staged a hunting trip yet?

I will agree that the man is smart, but couple that with his socialist leanings and it's only a matter of time before he starts lording it over us simple people.

So, it's closing time

I have to commend you, gents, you actually did pretty well.

It really IS hard to keep it from drifting into politics, isn't it?

But I believe the salient points regarding Giuliani's stance on guns, gun control, and [STRIKE]Fascism[/STRIKE] (oh, wait, that would be politics) are covered here.

I look forward to a factual account of the stuff that goes on at this here meetin'.
