I finally got myself the 9mm I have been desiring for the last few years. After a lot of thoughts, deliberations, forum lurking and even some shooting I ended up getting a Glock 17. Oh yeah - I finally bought locally and ended up feeling much better about myself AND saved $10 on the gun compared to the national chains.
Probably the best gun purchase decision I have ever made. I am very happy with the gun itself (no manufacturer defects), flawless operation today, very accurate for me. A few years ago I went through the obligatory "anti-GLOCK" phase that seems necessary. Shot my friend's Glock 23 on a few occasions and enjoyed the gun but never liked the 40 S&W caliber.
The day was about 95-100F, low humidity, not much wind. I shot at 7 yards mainly to get some confidence in the gun (haven't had a chance to shoot in the last 4 months), off-hand. Ammunition was 100 rounds of UMC 124gr. jacketed soft points and 200 rounds of 115gr WWB. At 7 yards both brands were relatively accurate but I was able to achieve a much higher level of consistency with the cheaper WWB ammo...a good thing since I bought a 9mm so I would not have to reload (I still saved the brass and will probably still get some dies).
7 yards was just a ragged hole (with the WWB, not so much with the UMC) so I would say in my hands it is pretty accurate. Comfortable to shoot and didn't slide around at all given how hot it was. Next time out I will start at 7 yards and then progress to 15 yards to work on duplicating the ragged hole.
As expected no malfunctions in the 300 rounds today.
