Been wanting a new Kahr PM9.

Went to the Gun show today and bought a new one. Paid $487 for it.

Took it to the range and fired 100 rounds thru it. 50 rds of UMC 115 gr. FMJ and 50 rds of American Eagle 115 gr. FMJ.

No problems at all with the 6 rd mag. I had 2 or 3 failure to feed (actually they feed I just had to push the slide all the way into battery) in the first mag. on the 7 rd mag. After the first run thru the 7 rd mag I had no problems of any kind. Everything worked great.

Recoil is less than I expected. (I usually shoot a .45 cal Glock) Gun shoots VERY accurate. Very easy to conceal and very lightweight.

I will go Monday to Wally World and pick up a value pack of WWB FMJ's and a box of WWB JHP's and see how they feed.

I couldn't be happier. Another 100 rds without a problem and I have a new full time carry weapon.

Congrats!

You got a super price for one. The folks down my way can't touch that price, gunshow or otherwise.

I've been happy with mine.

Good pick,

I have had a PM9 for a month or so. No malfuntions. Follow the manual closely during disasembly--disater can strike otherwise (slide locked half back with no where to go!). Great little fun with no problems whatsoever! Really accurate for such a tiny gun too.

Man, that is a good price... I can't recall ever seeing a PM9 brand new for less than about $540 or so.

Congrats! Be sure to post periodic range reports... and check out some 124 Gr +P God Dots and post if they are reliable or not.

I run the GDHP 124 +Ps through mine. About 250 so far, plus about 400 WWB. Bought it used, previous owner reported about 400 rounds of various HPs including GDHP with no problems. Had a couple FTF on the GD on the first few rounds, but since polishing the feed ramp, no problem.

The GDHPs are a bit snappy, but not unmanagable by any means.

The GDHPs are my carry ammo of choice.

Sensei...

Did you get the all black model? After a little thought, that's the one I picked.
124gr Gold Dots, 124gr +P Gold Dots, and 135gr Hydra-Shoks. However, I'm just about ready to stop using the Federals. I can "just feel" the Gold Dots chamber more slickly. Actually, pretty soon I'll be going to RBCD's. In all my autos, RBCD's chamber the "slickest". (It's the FMJ design. Whatever the tip is made of,
it's really slick and goes up the feed ramps with no problems at all. I've never had a RBCD "hang-up" on the feed ramp of anything I've tried it in.)

Me too.

I also chose the factory version that came with the Meprolight night sights(Tru Dot), same as my Glock19. Mine cost $619. Great little gun.

night sights

You can send just your slide to Kahr and they will
install night sights for $20 + cost of sights. They
have a set for about $59. I love my PM-9. ~500 rounds
with NO problems.

Thanks for the replys guys,

I got the version with the stainless slide. These were the ones he had on sale and it was the last one he had, so I thought I better jump on it. He said the next ones would be priced at the regular price: $549.

I have night sights on my Glock 30. I may put them on this PM9. Haven't decided yet. I think this will become my primary carry gun and I don't think they are REALLY necessary for a carry gun. But I do think they are nice to have just in case. Night sights are the only thing I add to any gun.

I also carry either WWB JHP's or usually Speer Gold Dots in my .45, so probably will do the same with this PM.

Speaking of 'feeling' rounds chamber more smoothly, I've had zero failures with the 124 +P Gold Dots, most of them the reclassified ones. But tried some 115 Gr +P CorBons and they are the smoothest feeling rounds when chambered. Working the action by hand with either the Gold Dots or the CorBons, the CorBons literally feel like working the slide on an empty gun with no magazine.

I haven't put enough of the CorBons through to make the change from Gold Dots - and in general, I like the 124-127 Gr loads - but for someone wanting a lighter bullet, the CorBons are very smooth.

Edit - spelling.

I just tried out my new PM9 for the first time yesterday. It's the blackened stainless version with night sights. Paid $599 for it new. Cleaned it , then lubed it with break free before taking it to the range.

The only ammo I had was about 250 rounds of CCI Blazer. I bought a box of Gold Dot's but forgot them at home.

Had many failures of the slide going completely into battery. After trying it some more, I noticed that it was only with the extended 7 round mag, and always on the very last round in the mag. Worked fine with the flush 6 round mag. Anyone else experience this?

Seemed to be very accurate, and easy to hit with. I'm going to run some various hollow points and other FMJ through both mags and see if the above problem repeats.

I plan on carrying it with the 6 round mag and it worked fine with that one. Pretty pleased with it so far.

I've got close to 1000 rounds through mine, and I love it.
I've been shooting a Colt Defender lately.
Bigger gun, (though they fit the same holster) with more recoil.
I have to have a really firm grip on the Defender.

When I pick up the PM9, after shooting the Defender, it feels like a toy.
The recoil feels like shooting a .22, and Saturday, I put two shots touching in the X-ring of a silhouette! First time!
I shot the gun OK before, but for some reason, after shooting the bigger gun, I've become a dead-eye with the PM9.
The Defender is an accurate gun, and I'm sure I'll continue to get better with it.
But, if I keep shooting the PM9 this well, the Defender is going to get bumped from the carry rotation.

The Defender is fairly easy to carry at around ~24oz. empty, but the PM9 is what.......18oz. empty?
Six ounces is a big difference on your hip all day.

Wardog,
No problems with my 7rd mag.
Try leaving it loaded for a few days.
Also, pick up a 100rd box of Winchester fmj ammo at Walmart for $10.

Blazer gets a lot of bad reviews.
I shoot Winchester exclusively in mine, except for the occasional Gold Dot +P, whick I carry in it.

No problems at all.

The company recommends a 200rd break-in, but I think I started shooting Winchester jhp after the 3rd or 4th mag, with no failures of any kind.

If you're still having the problem after 200-300 rounds, give Kahr a call.
They'll make it right.

wardog, I personally definately wouldn't hold failures with the Blazer stuff against the Kahr. Aluminum cased ammo, while it may work fine in some guns, has much less natural lubricity than brass. The Blazer seems to work fine in most of my 1911s and in my Taurus PT99, but with smaller 9mms, it seems to have more of an issue.

Good luck in the future though.

Cratz2 is right about lubricity...

I picked up a few spent Blasers that were on the floor of the range. I ran my thumb down the sides and thought one thing, "Boy, I bet these have trouble in a lot of autos". However, the "empties" were in several auto calibers. I remember .45ACP, 9MM, and .357 Sig. So, they've gotta work in (at least) some autos. But, at least to me, brass seems a LOT slicker.

I ran a box of 50 Blazer through my P220st once. No problems feeding but the SIG seemed unusually dirty when I cleaned it afterwards. I haven't (and probably won't) tried the Blazer with my PM9.

Do any of you guys pocket carry the PM9? Specifically, tight jeans? I wear regular cut Wranglers that actually fit me (almost cowboy cut) and was wondering how the PM9 carries in a front jeans pocket of normal fitting jeans?

I've tried pocket carrying in my Levis 501's but it's kinda uncomfortable when I sit down or drive. I'm using a HighNoon "Pocket Grabber and in dockers or dress slacks the PM9 carry's very nicely. As for printing, to my eyes it looks like I've got a wallet in my pocket.

I've always gotten good performance from Blazers. I tend to shoot nice weapons (P7, 239, USP,Pm9) though. I've never had a problem. I always assumed their bad reputation came from range owners who hate them because they can't reload em'.

Just to clarify, I didn't intend my post as a slur against Blazers. I have on many times recommended them for 1911 owners and to fuller sized 9mm and 40 owners and will continue to do so. Like I said, they've almost always worked for me in 1911s and in my Taurus PT99, Beretta before that and in various EAAs and CZs.

At the same time, if a gun gave me fits while using Blazers, I would in no way hold that against the gun itself. And as far as the lubricity goes, the biggest problem to me would seem to be that when rubbing two cases against each other (as will happen when feeding in most guns) they definately ain't as slick as when rubbing two brass cases together.

And for folks that can plan ahead and order via the internet, you can buy reloadable brass-cased ammo in 9mm just as cheap as any source I've seen for Blazers. I happened across a great deal and bought about 1500 rounds of 45ACP Blazers from a guy that went to 40 exclusively. I doubt I've actually bought more than four boxes of Blazers myself at anything close to retail.

In a pinch, they generally work, but for an ammo choice, the price would have to be significantly reduced to be a contender for me personally.

Second trip to the range.

150 rds through the PM9 today.
100 rounds of WWB FMJ.
50 Rounds of WWB JHP.

Again NO failures at all with the 6 round magazine.
3 or 4 failures to feed with the 7 round magazine.

I think I figured it out. With the 7 round mag I grip the botton of the mag to tight with my little finger and pull the front of the mag down so the round doesn't feed.
After I realized this and loosened the grip I had no failure to fire with the 7 round mag.

This little gun is VERY accurate at 21 ft. I am really glad I bought this.

Now have 250 rounds through it and it is destined to be my full time carry gun.

I will carry Gold dots 124 gr. I will have to shoot some through it to assure myself they will feed, however had no problems with the WWB JHP. Looking Good so far.

sensei,

I think you're on to something there with the 7 round mag. I'm gonna try loosening my grip on it next time. (Although it kind of defeats the purpose of the longer mag if you can't hang on to it. Oh well, gonna carry the 6 rounder anyway.)

I will also take several more brands of ammo, but I've had no problems with the Blazer in my BHP, Star BM, or S&W 6906.

I'm really liking the trigger/operating system of this gun. DAO, but not heavy enough to make it seem like work to shoot it.

You shouldn't be wearing Levi's. They are anti-gun and pro gay and lesbian. So is Docker's, another Levi Strauss & Co. product.

I never discuss politics with my pants.
