Glock 17: Tested factory and some of my reloads yesterday at 25 yard line. Compared 115 grain FMJ And 124 grain FMJ for pure accuracy. The 124 bullet weight wins every time, no matter my hand loads or the factory stuff. Why ?
Because the gun was designed around 124NATO 9mm?
I also find that my G26 and G34 are more accurate out to 50 yards with 124 over any of the other weight found in 9mm. Oh and any of the +P+ are nowhere near as accurate as the standard to +P.
You are gonna have to experiment a lot to get the best out of your G17. In the end it will be worth it.
I have by no means tried everything in my G17s but personally I do much better with a heavier bullet and a fast powder. There really isn't a whole lot of difference between a 115g and 124 grain bullet but there is a lot of difference between a 115 and 147 grain bullet.
Although Hodgdon/Winchester doesn't recommend WST for 9mm I use 3.8 grains with a 147 grain plated XTREME or Berries plated RN seated at about 1.124 COAL If you want to use Titegroup start at about 3.2 grains. I have not tried this with jacketed bullets so I cannot recommend a powder/charge.
Coated bullets such as Bayou or Blue will work fine in a Glock.
A with all things use caution and follow directions.
Most of the sights are regulated for the 124. I have a 17 & 17L and they both prefer the 124 in any flavor. Try some BE-86 with RMR 124's and I think you will be happy.
