Is it ok to use Federal 115 gr. Hi-Shock JHP +P+ in a Glock 19 for carry ammo? Will shooting +P+ cause damage to my gun?

It should be fine but like any ammo used for defense, try some out in your gun 1st before carrying it.

I have shot it in it before with no problems. I just wanted to make sure it would not damage my gun.

I suppose that it could cause an accelerated rate of wear on your G19 (and any other gun for that matter), however with ammunition prices being what they are presently, I doubt that few of us could actually afford to pay for all the ammunition that would be required to wear out a G19.

I have not had any problems with running the higher pressure stuff (+P and +P+) through my 17 and 19 although I have fired only ~400 rounds through each of the guns.

Agreed.

Much more important is that it functions reliably in your particular gun. Shoot a few boxes (through all of your magazines) to establish this, a few magazinefuls now and then for refamiliarization, and it will be just fine. :)

you will be fine, i don't suggest that you shoot that ammo all the time, but with the rice of it i am sure that you won't. i think the glock 19 will be able to handle that and then some, the only problem i see with shooting alot of +p+ is increased wear of the weapon, and such, but that is alot of rds and over quite a while.

do try them out to ensure that they work and function in your weapon prior to carrying them.

Thanks for all the replies, I was sure it was ok, but I just wanted to confirm it.
