I have a gen4 glock 19 and took the slide off for cleaning and replaced it, slide it in the open position and then let it go forward. When I let the slide forward the recoil spring was hanging out about 2” and the slide wouldn’t move at all. When I wiggle the recoil spring it sucked back into the gun.

what happen here?

I have seen that happen once before. I think it happens as a result of the recoil spring not being completely centered on the barrel before the slide is reinstalled on the frame. If it happens more often I think a call to Glock may be in order. Its hard for me to really know what's going on without looking at it in person.

The recoil spring was sticking out of the assembled gun? Out of what orifice? I don't think there's hole or gap large enough for the spring to stick out.

Recoil spring/guide rod installed backwards??
Front part of the recoil spring broken?

I’m guessing he meant guide rod
It's gotta be.

My Sig P938 Legion has a fairly precise interaction between the slide stop and recoil assembly and barrel link. If things aren't precisely lined up, the guide rod will stick out and I have to fenagle it around to get it to pop back together.

Though I've never heard of a Glock having a similar issue. The guide rod must have not been seated properly.

My Taurus PT145 would do the same thing if reassembled wrong; The guide rod (which is what was sticking out the front for you, ohihunter2014?) must be firmly and correctly seated in the slot milled for it on the recoil lug block of the barrel. As you and 460shooter know, fenaggling (a technical term) it around works to get it back into the slide. I then remove the slide and reassemble it correctly to be sure it will function properly.

Guide rod. My bad! I didn't take a picture because it went away within a few minutes.

Okay, I will take it apart and put it back together. Once it sucked itself back in I racked the slide a few times and it felt fine.

I once put the end of my spring on the wrong “shelf” of my TX22 barrel and slide wouldn’t function (spring wasn’t parallel to barrel)
