sig pro stuck slide?

On a new sig pro I just got, after racking the slide it won't go all the way forward without an extra push. It stops about 1/2 to 3/4 cm before it should. I disassembled it, lubed it, put it back together, but it still exhibits the same problem. If I push the slide forward it doesn't take too much pressure (not as much as it'd take to move it backwards against the recoil spring). But then it sticks. Typically I have to put the top front edge of the slide against the floor and push to get the slide to move.

I don't think it's the recoil spring guide sticking against the frame... I think it's the slide catch lever sticking against the curved slot on the barrel.

The recoil spring seems rather strong, which only makes the problem seem more serious... if it was a weak spring, I could understand.

i had the same problem

or almost with a SIG P229 SPORT it would jam all the time.i sent it back to the factory.it was the first SIG i ever bought i now have 7.it would shoot just would also jam.the barrel was to tight and it would not let it lock up.you might try marking the barrel or slide with something that will rub off and tell you where the tight spot is.like a red marker then put some jb bore paste on the tight spots and work the slide till it fits. or just send it back.

My Sig Pro did the same thing, but during normal firing it has no problem, as long as the slide is released and it isn't eased into battery, it is fine. But yours sounds like it is sticking a bit extra, and that doesn't sound quite normal. Might want to call Sig about this one.

As long as the slide goes into battery its fine. My 22ST did that when I first picked it up. The slide to frame fit was extremely tight. Run about 2-300 rounds through it and it will clear itself up. If your really uncomfortable about the few mm of play. Give Sig a call and they will take care of you.

The only thing is that SigPro's polymer frame should have sufficient "give" in it alleviate an extremely tight fit. If you've got to beat on it for it to go into battery, you need to send it back. During the first few hundred rounds, my SigPro had trouble going into battery, but only required a light push with a thumb to go all the way. I'd be afraid something is out of spec and pounding on it could be used by the manufacturer to void the warranty.

exactly what 45r said. i have a p220st that would do exactly the same thing when it was brand new, but it never malf'ed on me. but make sure that you are not easing the slide into battery. after a few hundred rounds, the condition lessened, but i can still feel a little bump when it goes into battery. actually i have two p220st's and they both do the same thing. but neither has ever malf'ed on me.

Correction... with it out of battery, the barrel is just about flush with the slide, but the guide rod is sticking out about 1/2 cm.

If I hit the mag release from slidelock it seems to go into battery without assistance, but I wouldn't want to risk that if I ever needed to reload quickly. I also can't check the chamber without running into the problem.

With the slide release lever out, I can work the slide and it goes into battery without any trouble. The problem has to be interaction between the slide release lever slot in the barrel and the slide release lever itself, right?

Also, is there supposed to be a 2-3 mm gap between the slide and the frame toward the back of the slide (i.e. in line with the rear sight)? Maybe there's some assembly problem I haven't caught.

Haven't heard back from sig yet. It seems like the SigPro FAQ references something similar, but it's still making me nervous. I'll try working on it some more.
