you've heard the question before most likely, sorry.
went to a gunshow this weekend and held both in my hands, both felt great.
I just want to know if anyone owns both and if they had to had one which one would they choose. thanks

I really do think I like the XD trigger better for plinking and range use. The Glock trigger feels noticeably heavier. I think the XD-9 is physically a little bit bigger and it is definitely heavier than the Glock 19. If you plan on carrying the gun, I think the Glock might be a better choice.

Glock, the XD has a very long trigger reset, not that there's any pull to it, just a too long of a travel for my liking.

The grip safety is 100% transparent on the XD. I havent heard of one report of it ever causing problems.

The trigger reset is an issue though. Whenever I try rapid fire on my XD, I end up pulling the trigger, and on the next trigger pull, nothing happens because I didnt let it out enough to reset. :(

ive had both and still have an xd after i traded my g19 off ill get another both are good guns you wont go wrong with either but you need to get the one that feels/works best for you not me.

i have owned both. i own 2 xd's and i couldn't be happier with em.
the glocks are great guns but they don't fit me nearlly as good as the xd's, i just shoot and feel a lot better with the xd.

the xd's have metal sights, guide rods, and triggers, unlike the glocks. the ability to shoot lead with the xd and not with the glock factory barrel, which yes is a big deal to me. the xd's are better ergo's wise and they point better for me.

the xd has an easier to reach and better mag release, and it is ambi, and since i use my trigger finger to drop the mag that is a great plus for me. mags for the xd are metal and not plastic with metal lining like the glocks.

the grip shape and girth of the xd's i prefer to that of the glocks.

If you shoot a lot of pistols with a 1911 grip angle, you will adapt to the XD much more quickly. If you are more accustomed to a Luger grip angle, you will adapt to a Glock more quickly.

I have learned to transition and shoot both pretty well...

...but you don't want to see my ammo bill...

I had the same decision a little while back and got the XD. Both felt ok in the hand but I was able to pick up the front sight better on the XD.

Most folks prefer the grip angle of an XD over that of the Glock, at least initially. In the long run you're gonna be happier with the Glock, it's slide and barrel steel being far tougher than the croation offering, they just don't corrode. The XD is truly a single action pistol without the benefit of an manual safety, if you're comfy with it fine, otherwise that issue of itself eliminates it from many folks list. The trigger reset is also an issue on the XD, to my mind it's awfully long but maybe you won't care about it that much, I know other guy's who could care less about the reset so I'd say try one out at the range first and see how you feel about it. Otherwise both are really very good pistol's so it'll just come down to which one tickle's your sweet spot......

The rust/corrosion issues has been resolved for a while now. Springfield has changed the XD to a new Melonite finish (which is the same as Glocks Tenifer finish, just a different trade name). Since Springfield has made this change, I think the XD can hold it’s own, if not beat the Glock in many areas.

My friend melonite is not the same thing as tenifer nor is it as tough.... P.S. S&W is applying or having applied a treatment called melonite to there M&P line, much the same as there famed Sigma. One problem with this carbo nitiding is that it in large part destroy's the corosion resistance of stainless alloy's.Tenifer cannot be applied to stainless.....Melonite has been and is being applied to stainless alloy's......

According to chemical company that invented them they are the same thing, just marketed under different trade names...

http://durferrit.de/en/unternehmen/firmengeschichte.htm
"To meet the growing needs with regard to wear and corrosion resistance, as well as the enhancement of the fatigue strength, great efforts were devoted to the development and launching of the TENIFER® process, which is also known worldwide under the trade names of TUFFTRIDE® and MELONITE®. This nitrocarburizing process has undergone continuous development with regard to its regenerability and ecology, and from year-to-year the number of applications is increasing on all 5 continents."

Here is a discussion about it here in THR:

even if the melonite begins to wear off, you can send it to sa for no charge and get it refinished in armory kote, which is what i did on my xd service model. it looks great and the finish is much better than that of the service model orginals finish and the melonite as well.

You miss my point, melonite cannot be the same as tenifer regardless of the claims of Der Durferrit. Glock owns the trademark, and as such you can't just turn around and say "well now we'll call it refinet" and sell it to anyone asking. This finish called melonite, is being applied to stainless alloy's in the firearm industry and as such explains much about itself in the process. Salt carbo nitriding baths weaken the chrommium content in these alloy's rendering them succeptable to oxidation. This explains why I've seen M&P's and XD's with rusted slides and barrels...........

I own a few of both. I still prefer my Glocks over my XDs.

But it all really comes down to choice and personal preference. BOTH guns will work great for you no matter which one you choose.

Or you can do like I did and by both lolololol.

They are both excellent guns. They both have their supporting and detractors. YOU need to decide which one feels better to you.

I went with the G19 cause that is what was around and had proven itself. The SA has proven itself.

As someone stated, it comes down to grip angle and what you like.

Do not let other people spend your money for you.
