Going to be picking up a gen3 g21 on monday at the local le dealer. Just wondering if there is anything that I should get work done to/replace when I first get it. Its going to be a conceal carry weapon. Just need some opinions from guys with more expeiriance than myself. TIA!

Just got one myself. I'd get some time with it, before messing with anything, and stay away, at least until you get more familiar with the pistol, from some of the "gadget" fixes that are supposed to fix everything, including things that don't need to be fixed.

I did spring for the Advantage Arms .22lr conversion. That's a quality product but the thing is so light weight, that when mounted on the plastic Glock frame, the combo is almost toylike in feel. I'm not sure how much good the kit really is in terms of training for the full caliber G21, but it makes an excellant .22 plinker.

The only thing I would get, especially for a self-defense gun, is night sights, like Trijicons.

I already hand load for .45 acp and I shoot berry's 230 gr prn. I will be doing some local target shoots with this pistol. What barrel would y'all reccommend and what about the 3lb trigger break? I'm not new to glock but very green with this particular model. Any and all suggestions or comment would be appreciated when it comes t aftermarket componets. I already shoot a g30 but I'm splurging on the 21 and I'm ready to do some good solid upgrade. Thanks again for your suggestions!

I use Berry's plated 200 gr swc with no problems with leading. Now that Berry makes a "true' swc rather than that "thing" they passed off as swc previously, its become my bullet of choice for utility loads. Reasonably priced, prompt delivery, accurate to my standards, and CLEAN.

I know it doesn't NEED anything but its more of a I have cash laying around and I have problems leaving things stock kind of issue.

if you want send it in to glock, but i highly doubt it needs anything. its a gen 3 and most gun owners are not really shooters....its probably barely been used. i'd say you're good to go but if it has a lot of wear from firing you could always take it to a glock armorer

Naw I'm buying brand new. I mean aftermarket parts like barrel, spring, ect.

Maybe night sights and an extended slide release. I have those upgrades on my G19 and like them. I also have a steel guide rod, extended slide lock (also known as take down tabs) and grip plug. The only real necessary upgrade in your situation might be night sights, but mine are all nice additions. BTW I also have a G21, it's the sf model. You won't be disappointed!

Thanks for the input. I have a g30 and I like it but it just feels a little bit too small for my hand. Does anyone have any input about aftermarket barrel selection?

The upgrades/accessories are a personal thing.

I have the following stuff on my G21SF:
Predator Custom grip reduction, stainless steel guide rod, extended slide stop, Warren Tactical night sights, LWD drop in aftermarket barrel (for shooting lead), 3.5# connector, LWD ultimate trigger stop, Lightning strike titanium plunger, and a $0.25 polish job.

If your going to be shooting target matches with it, I would recomend looking into the Glockworx Fulcrum trigger kits and a fitted match barrel from Bar-sto, Jarvis, etc.. You can also get extended barrels from those makers.

A good 25 cent polish job on the stock connector can give good results. I have removed the 3.5# connectors from most of my Glocks and installed the factory connector with a polish job. The only reason that my G21SF still has the 3.5# connector is because I haven't gotten around to changing it out.

The titanium plunger was a waste of money IMO.

Check out the Decal grips. I recently got a sand texture and a rubber texture decal grip for my G17. The sand is great if the stock texture isn't enough.

I don't have much experience with aftermarket barrels. I got a Lone Wolf Distributors (LWD) drop in barrel for $100 so I can shoot my lead reloads.
It works fine for its purpose.

I would recomend the basic stuff: Night sights, grip plug, at least five spare magazines, and a good stock of ammo/components.
Good thing about most glock part is that they are cheap, so experimenting with them won't cost you too much.

Are you getting the 21SF or regular 21? I think the SF is a much better fit, to my hand.

Your Glock needs nothing added to it. I think night sights are mainly useless, but a lot of people like them. If you can't see your sights well enough to use them, then you are going to have a hard time identifying your target. Stick a Surefire on your 21 when it gets dark.

It doesn't really need anything, but as others have said, Glock parts are reasonable enough that you can add stuff without going broke.
Maybe polish the feed ramp with some jeweler's rouge and a Dremel.
That and night sights are all that's been done to mine, 21 SF which fits my hand better than a 21. Anyway, enjoy!

If you're a handloader and/or bullet caster and want to shoot large quantities of nothing but soft lead bullets, an aftermarket cut-rifled barrel is almost a necessity. Otherwise there is nothing to be gained by replacing the factory barrel (which, BTW, has the Tenifer surface hardening treatment, the same as the slide). It doesn't need any springs until they wear out, which will take many thousands of rounds.

We may have to "agree to disagree" on that one. :)

If the feed ramp is rough, the barrel is defective.

Followup

A holster is just one of the three parts of your carry system. The other two are the belt and the spare ammo carrier. You will want a belt designed to bear weight and not let the gun sag, tip or tilt away from your body.

Because the 21 likes to kaBoom with reloads

What does this mean?

If you are using good brass, and not hot rodding your loads, there is nothing wrong with reloads in a Glock. 45 ACP is a low pressure cartridge, and is probably less likely to kaboom than higher pressure calibers.

Gentlemen:

I just purchased a Glock Mod.23 .40 S&W cal. I have been told that with this model one can put a drop in barrel for the .357 Sig round without having to change out the spring and that the mags will also load and feed the Sig round. Question being, has anyone ever attemped this or heard any comments reference this. I would be interested in any positive or negitive comments. Thanking you in advance....

I have a G21SF. The mods that need to be made on it are the oversized mag release and the oversized slide release. The mag release is small and makes you break your grip to drop the mag. These are cheap and effective mods. Also, I would get the 3.5 connector. You won't spend more than 50 bucks for these upgrades.
