I'm not a Glock guy, by any stretch of the imagination, but Glock does have the 21sf with the Glock rail and just a single side mag release.

It is the most comfortable Glock 21 I've handled. I would also pick the regular 21 over the 21sf with the ambi-mag release and I have relatively small hands. I don't find the ambi-mag release Glock 21sf comfortable.

I have owned Glocks for many years. I recently borrowed a friends tricked out G21 since I was looking to buy a polymer .45. I shot the G21 "OK". I decided to try an XD .45 Tactical. I like it. I like it a lot. I shot the stock XD better than the tricked G21.

I do agree with other posters about plentiful accessories and parts available for Glock. It's essentially the 1911 of the polymer world nowadays. The Glock is easy to work on, modify, and customize, my guess is resale would be better as well.

If you reload, you can shoot the XD cheaper since it has traditional land and groove rifling, i.e. it's cast bullet compatible.

But from my own shooting perspective, I prefer the XD, and I did put my money where my mouth is.

I have both in the counter right now...I've owned the older regular G21 myself and loved it...the new SF model deffinately feels better! That said the XD 4" feels a WORLD better still...I think it would be a hard call...for me at this point I think the knod goes to the XD for feel and ergonomics....for sure if you have smaller than large or XL hands!

I've owned the XD45 service model and put thousands of rounds through them with no issues. I thought it was a good gun, accurate and reliable. The trigger was mediocre at best but so is the Glock trigger. In .45ACP I shoot pretty much all 230 grain LRN bullets so I would have had to spend an extra $100 for a barrel for the Glock to shoot softer lead bullets (yeah, I know some people think that's nonsense but that's what I'd do). Overall I like the grip of the XD better but I don't like that they don't release individual parts for sale and they are more of a pain to work on at home compared to Glock. I sold it because in .45ACP, I am really more of a fan of the 1911 platform in general, but that's a whole different story.

All of my XD's had a better trigger out of the box than any Glock I've ever owned.

My M&P .40 Compact has a better trigger than Glock. Sure, sure you can do a trigger job on any of them but I'm comparing the factory triggers.

I have owned 3 XDs in 45, I traded or sold them all.. I have owned Two Glock 21s, and I still have one of the two.

I originally carried a Glock 21. I Got the XD to see if it could replace the G21.
I liked the XD because of the grip angle and the comfortable grip. I didn't like the XD because of the trigger reset and the fact that I couldn't completely disassemble the pistol without knocking out roll pins. I got a XD tactical with intentions of sending it off to get a trigger job, but that fell through when money got tight. After a while, I decided to go back to my G21. Soon after that, the G21SF came out. I started hunting one in area shops so I could compare it to my G21. After about 2 months, a gun shop got one in and I was able to compare it. I had the G21SF(ambi) in my hand for about 10 seconds , then I told them that I would take it. I sold my G21 and I still have the G21SF.
I prefer the Glock over the XD because : I have more experience with the Glock system, the Glock system is K.I.S.S. simple, I know how to fully disassemble the glock and repair it (if needed) without serious tools, I can buy $30 worth of parts and have an excellent trigger on the Glock ( vs $80-$120 for the trigger kits for the XD).
Most of my reasons for choosing glock are of MY own preference, YMMV. I did not have any trouble with the XDs that I owned, they just couldn't deliver like my Glock could. I did have a grip reduction done on my G21SF to get rid of the grip hump, which turned out to be well worth the money.

He's right, but only because they're trying to launch the whole XDm. Even so, the price difference is minuscule compared to the grand scheme of pistol prices; If you like the Glock, spend a little more, if you prefer the XDm over the XD and Glock, then spend even a bit more.

Just get whatever you'll be happy and comfortable with. It's practically just a hundred dollar difference between the 3 aformentioned.

I'm surprised that nobody, even myself, had mentioned that it's what you would like.

That's not fair; Apples and oranges. XD .45 tactical has a 5'' barrel for better accuracy especially for the .45 as some people will criticize that .45 acp only belongs in 5'' barrels--1911 lovers .

Not to mention longer sight radius than the Glock.
And also not to mention, Glocks 'dot in a box' sights, I admit, is rather sad.

+1 again on the Glock for the after-market aspect. Hard to go wrong with the Glock given the extensive after-market parts and ease of fitting them yourself. That said, I just chose a NIB but used XD 45 compact as the price was too good to pass up. I also find Springfield Armory customer service to be second to none with the exception of Wilson Combat.

I personaly went with the XD-45 service model as my first pistol. I chose it over the glock because I liked the looks, ergonomics, and yes even the grip saftey over the glock. I agree with what others have said; you should just try them both out and see which one you fits better for you though, I don't think you could go wrong with either one.

I understand where you're coming from. But, the G21 I shot had a fully adjustable Dawson target sight on the back, and a matching Dawson front fiber optic. The G21 had the magwell extension and really nicely lightened and slicked up trigger (3.5 disconnector and 4# striker spring combined with a very nicely done .25 cent trigger job).

The XD was right out of the box. The ergonomics on the XD, for me, were much better. I think if the XD were tricked out (I'm working on that now as a matter of fact), the gap would widen with the XD fairing even better, in my hands that is.

Can't really say much 'bout Glock as the grip angle never worked for me (YMMV), but AFA XDs...
Try 'em for fit, but you might consider the XD45 Compact instead of the XD45?
I like the shorter grip of the 45 Compact, and the second mag is the extended model should you ever find yourself in a situation where you need a reload (and if you do, you've probably waded into sumpin' deep and are going to want all the rounds you can get)! Short mag for CC, longer mag for HD and range work?

My main CCW is an XDSC9 (was XDSC40)-the XD 45 compact is on my short list of wants, but keeps getting pushed back.

I've bought and sold an XD-9 Service (4"), an XD-9 sub-compact, and an XD-45 Tactical for different reasons, but none of those reasons were due to reliability. All of them were good guns, but I thought I had found or needed a different gun. I now own an XD-9 sub-compact again and an XD-45 compact. Neither has given the least bit of trouble. I seem to keep returning to the XD line. I did own a Glock 36 that I didn't care for. The grip angle and the fact it was very uncomfortable to shoot caused the sale. Having shot a Glock 17 and my XD-9 Service back to back, I preferred the XD since I was more accurate with it and was able to bring it back on target quicker. I've also shot a .40 cal Glock 22, but it was the same deal with the grip angle. Just didn't like it because it just didn't point naturally for me. I don't have anything against Glocks and I'm even contemplating trying out a G20SF since the SF feels better and seems to point better for me than the standard model. I think either gun would serve you well, but you might want to shoot them back to back just to be sure.
