I have been seeing a lot and hearing a lot of things about the 40 caliber.

Things such as too much muzzle flip,

The cost of ammo,

The 9mm 127+P+ can do just about the same as the 40 S&W,

I am converting my barrel to a 9mm and so on and so on.

My question is, now that you own your 40 S&W and with all the new developments in the JHP +P and +P+ do you feel like you made a mistake?????

Is your 40 cal. all that it lives up to be and worth that extra $8.00 per box more than 9mm and just $2.00 less than if you would have gone with a 45 acp???????

If you had to by all over again would you make the same purchase or switch to a G17, 19 or 26????

i don't own glocks, i have but they were in 9mm as that is the only caliber that i like in glocks, and to be exact the 19 is my favorite. anyway, i own .40 handguns as a matter of fact the majority of the handguns that i own are .40.

too much muzzle flip?
with proper technique and training that wouldn't be an issue. i have no issues with "muzzle flip" on either of my .40 handguns, between 2 xd's and a kahr.

i have no regrets about owning/shooting guns in .40 yes ammo is an issue everybody knows that the cost of everything is going up, i have thought about getting conversion barrels for my xd's. but that has nothing to do with the performance of the 9mm, it has everything to do with the cost of ammo which is less which will give me more bang for my buck.

It's all relative. If the Glock in .40 was the only .40 you've ever fired than anything else will be measured against it. I've had several 9mm Glocks and the .40 does have more recoil, but not enough to dissuade me from moving up to it. Sure some 9mm ammo equals or exceeds .40 loads, but you have to pay extra for that extra performance, whereas that performance is standard in the standard .40 ammo and you can even get higher performance .40 loads that the 9mm can't touch.
I don't knock the 9mm though, it does have it's place and is quite effective, I even own one in the Bersa Thunder UC9. But I had two Glock 19's at one time and never had any interest in the .40s&w because of all the negatives I've heard and read about. It wasn't until I shot a friends' G23 that I discovered that all the negatives that were leveled at it weren't that negative to me to gain the extra advantage in power and still maintain a respectable magazine capacity.

I love my G27, BUT, I also have a G19 and now a CZ 75 in 9mm. If I had it to do all over again I would have bought a G26 instead, cheaper ammo, easier to manage just one caliber etc. The recoil is not that different between a 9 and .40 so it's strictly an economic thing to me.
