I know apples and oranges right?

Well which is easier to conceal? Could the 26 be considered a pocket gun? Anybody know the weights of the two loaded? I wanted a mak just to be in the club but now I'm really leaning toward a used glock.

What are the 26's like to shoot. Anyone have both?

I hear the 26's are real accurate. I can't believe I'm considering buying a glock but the dark side beckons.

Any and all thoughts appreciated.

Neither is really a pocket pistol. The Mak is heavy and the G26 is chunky. The Mak is reliable and accurate but recoil is stout because of the blow back design. The G26 is reliable and accurate and recoil is softer thanks to the polymer frame and double recoil springs.

Why not get both?

Here are two grewt reviews from Mr Camp's web site: Mak Review and Glock 26 Review

I have both and the G26 is the best by far.....better caliber 10-17 round mags if you need them...........I have a Sidearmor IWB holster for the glock and it works fine.............I also have a Dillon IWB holster for the Mak...........

The G26 and its .40 caliber cousin, the G27, are about the same size overall as a typical J-frame snubby. If you can pocket-carry a snubby, you can pocket-carry the baby Glocks. I do so with a G27 from time to time, and have had no problems. The Makarov would be more difficult to pocket-carry, as it's quite a bit heavier than the baby Glock, and would "pull" more at the pocket material.

I can't imagine carrying either in a normal sized pocket...

For IWB carry, if you can afford the Glock, go for it. More rounds of more powerful ammo in a lighter, easier to shoot package...

For the price, th Mak does a very respectable job though...

Thanks for the insights. Money is tight and getting tighter. Baby on the way.

I just want something small as it may be some time before I get to buy another piece. I see they have some used 26's at CDNN. That is slightly more than I can afford but I am making alot of sacrifices for the family so I figure a little treat for myself isn't such a bad thing.

I also want something for the little woman to throw in her purse if she ever needs such a thing.

By pocket carry, I'm thinking jacket pocket or iwb. I'm sorta fat and in the summer in a tshirt just about anything worth carrying is gonna print on me. I don't really carry except when I'm going someplace new or far away.

THAT pretty well eliminates the Glock (unless she is going to carry with an empty chamber--NOT a good idea).

The Mak feels/conceals better than the Glock 26. I normally carry a Mak in my jeans pocket--but I do buy jeans with large pockets. I don't worry much about printing (though I do use a pocket holster to break up the outline. My cell phone "prints" more when I drop in the pocket--and who's going to know the difference this day and age.

The G26 has a slightly higher capacity and a slightly more potent round. The Mak is less prone to operator error and more reliable (my personal experience with both)--it is easier to carry two spare Mak magazines than one spare G26 mag so if you count reloads, Mak has the greater capacity.

I have a G26 and I used to own a Mak.

If you have the money, get the 26 and a good IWB holster. Mine rides in a Comp-Tac Undercover.

The Mak is a good gun, but the Glock 26 is head and shoulders above it. Caliber, accuracy, capacity, and in my opinion, size. It is a more versitile gun too.

I have not trouble hiding my 26 under a T-shirt, even on the hottest, stickiest Tallahassee afternoon. That is nasty hot, for those of you who have never been to Tally in the summer.

You should be fine with either choice though.

I agree with a few here... the G26 is to chunky/blocky for pocket carry, and for me, it was a bit to much for IWB carry as well, so I traded for a walther PPK/S which is much thinner... I know, I know... let the PPK criticism start :) Can't say much about the mak... never handled one. A friend has one on order, so I can check it out when he gets it. I may end up getting one myself just for the hell of it :)

thanks for the observations

My wife routinely handles things more dangerous than handguns so when i say she would throw it in her purse please understand that it would be secured within a Glock appropriate holster.

Maybe I can carry it under a tshirt in summer. I am leaning towards the 26 now. I just need to find out how much CDNN will sell me one for. Anyone have info on that?

I need to learn more about different holster options for this now. Plastic is ok but I like leather too. I'm begining to feel the excitement of a new gun purchase set in.

Thanks -bevr

For pocket carry of a G26/27 size gun, I recommend the DeSantis Nemesis. It's made from a synthetic material that is fairly "grippy" on the outside, clinging to the material of the pocket and thus staying put during a draw stroke, but smooth on the inside to make it easier to get the gun out. Also fairly low-cost, which helps!

For IWB carry, my choice is the Milt Sparks Versamax II.
