I am looking to purchase a new CCW for myself, I currently carry a Beretta Tomcat 32 and I am looking for a weapon of a larger caliber, I am not interested in a 9mm and so I have narrowed it down to these 2 .40 caliber guns. I will be carrying my weapon in a smartcarry (www.smartcarry.com) I have held both guns and like the following about each of them. I like the Glock 27 better for the way it fits in my hand and the fact that I can have a 10round clip with it. I like the Kahr because of the fact that its slimmer and seems more concealable for a person like me, (I have a slim build). But my real question is, I am trying to make up my mind between these 2, I would like any feedback on any of these guns. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Get the Glock. I have two Kahrs, I like them, my MK-40 is excellent but my K40 has issues which it must go back to the factory for. Less hassle with the Glock.

Do you intend/already reload? If so, I'd stay away from the Glock, I personally don't want to have to buy a real barrel so I can shoot lead.

I know the Karh has poly rifling as well, but AFAIK you can shoot lead in them with no problems.

??? It's not some mystical coating the Austrian elves put in the bore, it's the polygonal rifling. If you see that, don't shoot lead. That means Kahr too. I see either gun as carried a lot and shot a little(1-200 rds a month) I imagine factory ammo would be the order of the day, if not there is always plated or jacketed bullets for reloads, if you like your health and shoot long enough you will quit with the lead bullets and go with something that has an enclosed base.

I used to own a Kahr Covert all stainless .40 cal, like you said it feels like it conceals easy but mine (all stainless) felt like it weighed a ton and because of the shortened grip it felt nose heavy. Mine had issues, I had a lot of extraction probs as other Kahrs have had in the past. I finally traded mine for a Glock 23 and loved it so much I have since bought a Glock 27 and a Glock 33 (which is .357 Sig and a real handful but I love it) Bottom line for me is this, after having owned a malfunctioning Kahr and presently owning 3 Glocks, neither of which has ever had the slightest problem, I would most strongly recommend Glock. All Glocks are excellent mid priced pistols that are virtually trouble free. Oh sure, like any man made machine, you could come across a faulty Glock, hell even Toyota Pickup trucks (worlds most perfect machine) have occasional problems. But joking aside, go to a range where you can rent one of each model you want to try and see which one you like the best.
As far as concealability, I carry my Glock 33 almost 24/7 in an Action Direct Belly Band ($34) just aft of my hip and it disappears even with a loose fitting T-shirt and relaxed fit blue jeans you can't see it.
Good luck, remember that concealed weapons aren't always comfortable, but they are comforting. I read that someplace.

Can't say anything about the Kahr!

I just don't have any experience with it. As to the G27 I've owned both the G26 and the G27 for several years. Carry them both (not at the same time of course) with a Sidearmor IWB which makes for a secure, comfortable, and safe carry for the Glock in case you are going to carry "cocked and locked" as it were. The Sidearmor keeps the trigger nicely covered and, for Glocks, that is IMHO an important concept.

I have put a lot of ammo through both of these pistols and I tend to use the cheapest stuff I can buy. Both have functioned flawlessly no matter what kind of crappy stuff I feed them. I have found them to be excellent weapons for concealed carry and, for small guns, more than reasonably accurate. FWIW! Good shooting:)

Read your question carefully and specifically this passage:

I am looking to purchase a new CCW for myself...

I have owned and carried both firearms. I shot the G27 extremely well. Some folks can't stand them, but it pointed and grouped amazingly well for me.

The K40 Covert shoots at least as well in my hand. But, the real payoff - and this is important for a CCW - is in the significant difference in thickness between these two fine pistols. Although the Kahr is heavy for such a small package, it is simply hands-down more comfortable in an IWB holster - at least for a big guy like me who carries more sideboards than he should.

I have sold the G27, but I don't expect to ever sell the Kahr. And of all the Kahr family I believe you have selected the perfect combination. The K40 Covert gives you a bit more punch than a 9mm, a short grip (which markedly enhances the concealability), a full slide length for optimum sight radius, and all in a package so thin that it truly hides in your waistband comfortably.

I also carry it in a Galco Miami Classic shoulder holster from time to time with nary a care.

I really like the Glock. But, it's no contest as compared to the Kahr K40 Covert where concealability is concerned. Not even close.

Shooting Reloads is OK

I have shot thousands of reloads thru my G26 and not a bit of trouble. I shoot only jacketed bullets and it works great. I do my own relaoding and quality control is high. As a side note I am considering buying a PM9. Good luck to you.
