Glock 34 chambered in 9mm seems very nice. I like the simplicity of glocks.

It comes in a 5.32 inch barrel. Around what fps should a standard 115 gr. 9mm go in that?

Does it offer a significant increase in performance over the 4.5 inch ones? Or am I just splitting hairs? :D

My limited experience with factory ammo and a 34 suggests that about 1175 FPS can be expected with WWB. Maybe 1140FPS from a G17.

Different chrono, different phase of the moon, YMMV.

I have one G34 and three Gen II G17s. I like the extra sight radius of the 34. I dislike intensely its fingergroove as evidenced by my preference in G17s. I like the 17s better for very rapid shooting, for me they tend to recoil straight up and back down, whereas if you track the G34s sight it does a little figure 8 in recoil. Maybe the fingergrooves and me, it may be the extra weight out at the muzzle, or both.

I don't think you will be unhappy with the 34, but my current preference is for police trade in 17s, why pay $550+ for a new 34 when 17s can be had for $350-420?

I haven't had the chance to fire one yet, but I do like the idea of the extra sight radius. And even if it's minimal, extra velocity doesn't hurt in 9mm.

Navy Joe, have you put the 34 slide group on your Gen II frames? It should go on just fine and give you the best of both worlds.

What's better about the GEN II frames? The 34 comes with an extended slide release/stop and extended mag release, which I prefer. The trigger is also lighter. Its one of my favorite guns.

AND, It looks longer than it actually is.
The 34 is the exact same overall dimensions as a trusty 1911.
If you don't like the finger grooves any good 'smith can remove them.
If he is really handy and has some free time, he can restipple the front strap for a no slip grip.

I just bought a Glock 34 two days ago. I shot it once so far and am going to shoot it again today.
I really don't have a lot of thoughts about it at this point, I don't have enought experience with it yet. But, I don't think that you will see much gain in velocity from that small difference in barrel length. Don't get me wrong, I am sure if you chronoed the two, there would be a difference: just not much and probably not enough to give you a difference in real world results. I have tested loads in 9mm using a KelTec P11, up to and including 9mm carbines with 16" barrels. The 9mm cartridge seems to be very efficent and increases in barrel length only give slight increases in velocity.

I am already tricking out my Glock 34:
I bought an extended and threaded barrel from Bar Sto along with a cap for the barrel threads.
I also bought taller sights.
This is all for use with an AAC Evolution 9 suppressor which I don't own yet.

Yes, I have put my 34 upper on the 17. May or may not be USPSA legal. Grinding the fingergrooves off certainly is not USPSA legal which is the only reason I own a 34. I shoot it quite well, I just prefer the smooth grip covered in grip tape. Further, as for what is better about a Gen II frame, the rear frame rails are huge compared to a Gen III. This may not matter to most, but my 34 broke a rear rail after about 30K rounds. My main reason for liking them again is cost, I will buy pretty much any 17 I see for under $350, the G34 is a little too pricey for me.

Talk about hitting the nail right on the head!

IMHO, the Glock MOA(manuel of arms, not minute of angle) is the same as that of a reolver. Simply pull, point, and shoot. Less room for murphy to play, makes me happy. Call me paranoid :uhoh: ...

PS- I prefer the .40 ;)...

I went to the range today and put another 200 rounds through my '34.
I have owned it three days and have fired 350 rounds out of it: all on indoor ranges: it is far too hot to shoot outside. So, I am basically just shooting bullseyes. At least I got the factory sights adjusted.
