anyone out there shoot a glock 34? if so, how's it compare to other "target style" 9mm's?

I have been looking for a browning HP 9mm to have worked over into a slick target pistol, but have also been considering a STI and a kimber, all 9mm to target shoot with...so I was just wondering.

I shoot one in IDPA and it's a very user-friendly and reliable pistol. The extended sight radius, over the G17 on which it is based makes it easier for those longer-range shots. The other features the 34 comes equipped with is the extended mag-release and the extended-slide stop lever.

It's a very accurate pistol, but if you're looking for something to carry occasionally, I'd opt for the G17 instead. They're nearly the same pistol.

How does the G34 stack up against the G17L? I got to handle a G17L today and it sure felt nice and loved the longer sight radius.

I am not really looking for one to carry, mostly to shoot little bitty groups at long distance paper targets, and maybe the occasional clay pidgeon...

I have owned and shot both the G34 and the G17L.
My G17L is probably the most accurate handgun I own. Silly accurate, literally one hole accurate out to 10 yards. Not one big, ragged hole, but one hole, 5 shots.

The best part of it is the G17L is super accurate from point blank out to 50 yards.
I shoot it regularly at 25 yards and it matches my 1911s for accuracy at that range.
For a range/target pistol that you could also use as a home defense weapon I can highly recommend it.

Customers that I have recommended and sold them to have also had similiar experiences with accuracy.

I like the 34 a lot. I've shot them a bunch and I want to get one, but I can't find a smokin deal on one. I have 2- 17's with all of the same goodies (extended mag, extended slide release, 3.5# connector).

hags-
Since you have owned both G34 and G17L whats your take of the G34 then?
You posted about the G17L but said nothing about the G34.

Thanks!

It's a nice gun, it's purpose made for competition, it handles really well. I do see alot of 34s, and with good reason.

The 17L with it's 6" barrel does manage to balance really nice. I just shot my 17L more and can shoot it better than most of my handguns.

Either the 34 or 17L will suit your needs. To me the 17L is less common place and turns heads when people see it and when they see how it shoots.

Both the 34 and 17L come with the same trigger weight pull. They are both rated from the factory at 4.5lbs. The pull on my gun seems lighter but I have not measured it.

Dave:

The 34 is flawless for balance, and the difference in sight radius is significant even versus the 17.

The 17L is the only 9mm Glock that I don't own. I have rented a 17L and have fired a few hundered rounds through one, but simply did not care for the (lack of) balance.

While I admit that my Browning HP is an awesome and accurate pistol, it too is no Glock 34.

Well, the 17L is being marketed as Glock's "target" model. Based on my own experience I can see why.

I have both the 34 and the 17L in stock. Email or PM if you're interested.

:D

If you have shot glocks before then you know about the difference in trigger feel and the 34 is a good reliable well made (but no frills) gun. If you haven't shot a glock yet I urge you to before you choose the 34. I have owned glocks for over 10 years and shoot them well but recently I started trying 1911's and for some reason I could shoot them more accurately starting at about 15yards and very noticeably at 25yards despite vastly more experience with the glock. I think its the trigger. If you want to try other slides on your glock lone wolf makes them. Also a trigger job helps (you can actually get lighter then the 3.5lb connector).

Recently, I picked up a Glock 34 to use as my new USPSA production division gun. I had been shooting in the Limited 10 division with my Springfield XD45. With the increasing cost of reloading components, I decided to go with 9mm. I'm currently designing a concealed carry holster for my 34.

Can someone briefly go over the factory features of the G34?

I have heard the following;

adjustable sights (are they night sights?)

3.5 # trigger

extended slide release

extended mag release

longer slide/barrel than G17

Is the front sight plastic or steel?

Thanks, chris

I absolutely LOVE my G34! I tricked it out with a Lone Wolf barrel and adjustable night sights from Meprolight. The sights and barrel arrived about a week after I placed my online order for them.

I was alarmed when the addition of the higher profile adjustable night sights initially made it incompatible with the Blackhawk SERPA holster I used to conceal my G17, before I bought a G21SF. The holster and sight channel narrow toward the business end. Since I was able to slide it in most of the way, without resistance, I went out and bought a thick file with teeth on the sides. After filing down the inner sight channel near the business end, I was able to make it adapt the G34.:)

Now, I have an extremely accurate pistol the same length as a 1911 - and, a heck of a lot more ammo - for concealed carry in a great holster!:D

Life is good...
