Glock 36? Enlighten Me

3/16" is a lot in the grip. Though I agree that the extra capacity is nice đź‘Ť

For me, the size and weight of the G36 makes it worth the capacity, given the chambering.

But if more capacity is desired, and a small increase in size and weight is acceptable, the G23.4, in .40, is a good choice.

The G30 grip size, for most, is prohibitive.

It’s fairly significant, to me, between a 30 and a 19 and the 36 is thinner still, so that’s a pretty big change. It’s also 4 rounds, which is also not insignificant at all. Though, I didn’t +1 my mags when I had a 30, when I did loading that full mag dented the rim of my top round and super annoyed the reloader in me

Another often overlooked attribute of the G36 - is its loaded center of mass.

Being a short gripped single-stack compact pistol, even though chambered in .45 ACP, the bottom round in the loaded mag is parallel with the ring ringer, the rest of the grip being empty polymer.

So, when it's in a high IWB holster, the grip doesn't flop around, because the center of mass is under the belt line.

Not so with the compact double-stack G23.4 .40, and am sure even worse with the compact double-stack G30 .45 ACP family.

Because it has no adverse mass characteristics, it carries very well.

Glock 36 owners is this 45acp a must have?
No.
I have one and carried it for a year or so. First thing I did was file off the finger groove protrusion, apparently it was made for someone with long skinny fingers.
Function wise it's a Glock, very reliable. It doesn't feel great in the hand, but I don't care about that, I shoot it very well.
I quit carrying it because it is large relative to capacity and I have several other guns I like much better. There are many other Glocks I would prefer over the 36 if I were looking to buy.

interesting. I insist on a stiff belt and solid clips for my IWB holsters and will tolerate no flopping around with anything, but I can see how that’d be a plus for sure

I loved my G36, but it was a casualty of downsizing my collection before I got married. I let it go in favor of my G29SF as I had a G20 and no other .45ACP. If Glock ever makes a single stack 10mm (G49 maybe?) I'm in, as the bulk of the G29/30 is very heavy compared to the G36. I conceals like a G19 but gives you the payload of a full size 1911.
I regret selling it, although whom I sold it to is a friend and still carries it, so that's a positive endorsement to me.

Had one for just long enough to try and qualify for my job. Department had gone Glock and I was An investigator in plain clothes. The thing was unreliable after 500 plus rounds on the range. After trying to qualify, and having issues with the thing, I gave up and went back to my Colt Officer. Yes, I had spent some money on the Colt to get it 100 reliable, but honestly the 36 did not offer anything I wanted
