The width (side to side) of a handgun grip isn’t the only thing that makes it uncomfortable or hard to hang on to/control… the length (front to back) of a grip is also a factor to consider… I know I don’t find the G36’s grip to be that entire great… too long front to back.
To solve both problems (& then some others) GLOCK made an all-new gun… the G37.
GLOCK went after this market: (No particular order.)
#1 People who subscribe to the “big bullet†theory.
#2 People who want a powerful, fairly fast yet controllable round/platform.
#3 People who want an out of the box reliable, hollow-point firing platform.
#4 People who want high capacity with compactness. (which means double stack)
#5 People who want a grip that isn’t too thick side to side.
#6 People who want a grip that isn’t too long front to back.
#7 People who want a lightweight gun.
#8 People who aren’t worried about concealed carry, because it’ll be an ‘open carry’ sidearm anyways.
#9 People who are going to be issuing this gun to several types of statures.
#10 People who don’t want short, light triggers of a single action for their limited trained personnel.
#11 People that don’t want a ‘safety’ lever, to forget about flipping off, for their limited trained personnel.
#12 I’m sure there are others too I forgetting about…
What other well known gun/manufacture out there would fill all of the above?
GLOCK was going after more of the LEO market with this one, knowing all well that the G37 could very well fit CCW needs/wants too.
As always, only time will tell what the market will do. I recall hearing some of the same arguments against the .40 cal. back when…….
I think the G37 was WELL thought out… I think it was pure genius of GLOCK, especally knowing that a lot of LEO agencies are “all about what’s newâ€.
