I have a friend who is looking at getting a glock .45acp pistol. Does anyone have any experience or comments on them? Glock 30 or 36.?

I highly recommend a G30 to anyone looking for a .45 ACP compact reliable HG. I have a G30 and it is one of my most accurate handguns next to my P7M8. I have owned my G30 for well over 7 years and have fired thousands of rounds through it without a single problem. Some people complain that the grip girth is overly thick but I have regular sized hands and I have no problem with it. I have shot the G21 (full size) and G36 (subcompact) on numerous occasions and none rivals the accuracy of the G30. I have heard more than one Glock Aficionado say that the G30 is the most accurate of all Glocks. Regarding size difference, when you compare the actual size of the G36 vs. G30 IMO there really isn't that significant of a difference. I would choose the capacity of the G30 over the G36 anytime. That being said, I would someday like to purchase a G36.

In addition, some people consider the G30 to be too thick for CCW. I am a medium sized guy with my fair share of midlife baggage around the midsection and I have no problem carrying or concealing my G30 in a IWB Milt Sparks VMII.

I own a G36, and find it's a very handy and reliable gun. Its accuracy is just fine, as well. I do find the G36 to be both more concealable (I carry in a SmartCarry over my cod) and easier to handle than the G30 (but my opinion and, indeed, the opinion of ANYONE else but you on this is irrelevant - you have to go handle one and consider how YOU will be concealing it).

Ditto to what Erich said. Definately handle them before you buy it.

I have two G17's and a G21...all of which I like. Wanting a small-framed .45ACP gun, I bought a G30 on a friend's recommendation.

In short, I didn't really like it as much as I had hoped. I kept it for several months and kept shooting, but I never got very comfortable with it.

I traded my G30 for a Beretta 8045 mini-cougar instead.

I have both (even though I can't carry where I live at present). I have found both to be excellent handguns. The G30 is a gem, maybe a tad chunky in the grip, true, but I think that may help soften the recoil. I like it enough that it is my primary house gun; I trust it. You won't find many pistols with that combination of accuracy, firepower, reliability, and relatively low weight. Consider it a Lightweight Commander for 2005.

I have never owned a G30, but I have shot several of them. I do know they are incredibly accurate for their size. Suprisingly so. Reliability is typical Glock, not an issue. They are chunky and I suppose a bit tougher to carry concealed, but folks grow accustomed to their rig unless it is intolerable.

Thanks for the info, I'm gonna recommend the G30. He is 65 years old and he doesnt have a computer yet, getting one next week though. Of course I'll show him how to get to THR. He currently carries a 9mm Ruger P89, a very nice gun itself.

"Does anyone have any experience or comments on them? Glock 30 or 36.?"

Have had all 3. CCW gun is a 36 and use a G21 in IDPA, etc. Even with large hands and long fingers the 30 never fit or felt "right" so it is long gone.

I have a G36, had it for about a year now. Had it fitted with an internal laser.
Great gun to carry and very accurate. I have a browning 9mm, colt combat commanders [lightweight] in 45 and 9mm and a couple of 1911s, the glock is always the one I carry now.

Owned and carried a G30. Surprisingly accurate and not a single failure, ever. I found it to be more accurate than my G21 for who-knows-the-reason. The G30 was a bit of a booger to conceal...for me at least...IWB on a 160 lb frame just would not work.

I would specifically recommend a mag extension for the "flying pinky."

Take care,
Rich
