As many of you THR-ers probably already know, ArmsCor has introduced a new round called the 22 TCM. This round is supposed to achieve 2050fps with a 40 gr bullet out of a normal length 1911, which should make it a slightly more powerful proposition than the 5.7x28mm. ArmsCor is introducing this round in a new high capacity 1911 that can be converted to 9mm simply by swapping the barrel...

That fact got me thinking, if this new round will function through a normal 9mm magazine then it seems like you should be able to fire the round through a 9mm Glock (or any number of other pistols) with only the addition of an appropriate barrel. After inquiring with Lone Wolf Distributors about this possibility, I received an email reply stating that they had received similar suggestions from several other customers and were in the process of testing to determine the feasibility of such a project.

I've always thought the FN Five Seven was an interesting concept, just not $1k worth of interesting. On the other hand, If I could just pick up a $130 lone wolf barrel and shoot this new ammo out of my glock, well I'd probably place my order tomorrow. What say you THR, anyone else think this would make for an interesting conversion possibility?

I would likely get one just for the novelty of loading and shooting this cartridge. Provided dies and brass were avalible without too much fuss

You bring up a great point and I hope this .22 TCM concept takes off. For reloaders, it's a pretty common marriage of components and I wouldn't think this would require massive retooling to manufacture as well. I too like the concept...not so much to stick a finger in FN's eye, but it would be nice to have something innovative from the homefront. The added bonus on swapping barrels and keeping magazines is even more appealing.

I really hope the .22 TCM gets a lot of attention and I hope even more that it's performance, availability and production costs match that level of attention.

If it's just as good if not better than 5.7, I may look into a barrel for my XD-40 if they are ever made. I'm kinda liking this concept of small but "zippy" handgun rounds.

I'm pretty sure there aren't any dies or brass out yet, but if the round gained a little momentum, I'd imagine components would be forthcoming. I think it would be fun to try some different bullet weights, maybe with a slightly extended barrel to see what kind of performance could be wrung out of the cartridge, could be fun long range plinker...

Same here, I don't think I'd really be looking to use a 22 TCM conversion for self defense, but it would certainly make a fun addition to my collection of calibers... Super flat shooting long range plinking comes to mind. Also, it might be the perfect setup for Armadillo eradication or short range Coyote work.

I like the idea, but if they did come out with an XDM conversion barrel, I'd need to find a new range. The range I go to now is 2K FPS or under.

Is that an indoor range or are they just being difficult for the fun of it?

I'd have to see how the ammo cost situation plays out before I bought into it. I've really clamped down on diversifying into different calibers lately. I seem to have trouble feeding the ones I already own.

Indoor range. Only pistols, pistol-caliber carbines, and shotguns (buckshot or slug only) allowed. No 5.7s, no rifles, no birdshot.

There are 5.7 loads that won't break 2000 feet per second out of the pistol.

If the goal of this one is a bit over 2000 FPS with a 40 grain bullet, probably wouldn't be difficult at all to load it with some common 55s to keep the speed down enough but recoil forces high enough to cycle reliably.

I can't imagine why none of the aftermarket Glock barrel makers haven't taken up this project in 25 years of successful answers to the shortcomings of the original weapon. The .22 Reed Express(2200 fps@40gr, 5" bbl) solved this problem way back in the early 2000's, with a barrel for the CZ52; when asked why he hadn't developed a barrel for the Glock system, the answer was: "The cost of production would be prohibitive, given the lukewarm response in its present application." I wish he had made 100 just for Glocks; I'd have bought every one of them!!!

Easy to make mistake, but a 9mm 1911 has a 45ACP length magwell, so its a non starter in most 9mm pistols. It'd probably fit in a Glock 20 or 21 but then the mags will likely have feed lips too far apart for 9mm rounds.

I'd entertain the thought of picking up an after-market Glock barrel in .22 TCM if it wasn't too expensive and the ammo was available and priced right. It'd make a great short-range prairie dog/varmint pistol.

Pretty sure the grip frame of the G17, G19, G26, et al is not long enough for the .22 TCM. The case is a long as the 9x23 Winchester meaning it is 4mm longer than the 9x19 round. The round would fit in the G20 and G29, but magazines would be problematic.
