I consider myself to be a glock guy. I have the 17, 21, 23, 27, 30, 36. I shot an M&P 9mm today & I'm really interested in dialoguing about it. I think I actually liked its trigger better than my glocks'. I believe I also found its sights easier to acquire than my G17 (it had the green luminescent [short hollow tube style] front sight while my glock has a tritium front site).

I believe this gun was the M&P Pro. I looked it up online tonight after shooting it.

I'm not looking to bash glocks; as I said I really like mine, but I'd love to hear others' opinions on the trigger and the sights - particularly some others like me who have experience with glocks.

Since I like carrying the smaller ones (particularly the 19/23 and 26/27) who has experience with the compact M&P?

with the compact M&P?

I have a full size M&P 9mm not the Pro or Compact. I don't like the trigger better than the one on my Glock 19. It's too spongy feeling, doesn't break as well, has a poor reset, and the trigger itself is too wide. In fact, I have no complains about it except for the trigger. I haven't had a trigger job on mine though, and the one you shot possibly has been worked on.

I shoot the M&P compact in 9mm - wonderful gun - as accurate with it as I am with any of my guns. I had a G26 and liked it a great deal, but that one got traded for an H&K. I'm keeping the Smith.

I have not had a chance to shoot the M&P but I hear they are great. You may have found a new gun that you will now start to buy or you could shoot it a bit and grow tired of it.

In other words you have that "seven year itch" that no Glock can scratch. It's okay, I believe one of the reasons guns are better than women is they don't mind if you play with others.

I much prefer my M&P to the Glock that I owned. In fairness to the Glock, it was a 1st gen. Glock 19 that I got well-used, and its accuracy was minute-of-barn-door at 25 yards. It was snappy, even for a 9mm. I hated the sights.

It's very possible that it was the prior owner's fault, but I do love my M&P.

I pulled the trigger on a worked over M&P last week. The trigger was very crisp and for me it pointed much more naturally than my Glock ever did. I would have been completely happy with it.

i have 2 mp's. one is a 40 and one is a 45, both compact models. they're slightly more accurate than my glock, and just as reliable (as far as feeding). the only issues i've had are the 45 came with a rediculously heavy trigger pull which smith lightened for free for me.

the 40 compact, however, has issues with the slide locking open with rounds still in the mag, and some times doesnt lock back with an empty mag. i am not contacting the slide stop at all and smith has already replaced the slide stop lever and spring and the problem continues. i need to call them back for another return label.

I find my M&P Compact in 9mm to be a great gun. It is smooth, reliable, and very accurate. To me it shoots the equal of the larger version. I depend on my M&P Compact on a daily basis. I would take it over a comparable Glock, without question. There's nothing at all wrong with a 26, but I far prefer the M&P.

The M&P is more recent design than the Glock. It starts with a better trigger than the Glock. I have the Glock 17 & 19. If I were to start all over I’d buy the M&P. Now that I have the Glock there is no reason to change. A trigger tune on the Glock will cost a lot less than trading to the M&P. (A tuned M&P will probably be better than a tuned Glock trigger.) The cost to move away from Glock is much worse if you have holsters, magazine holders, spare parts, etc. Unless you don’t like your current gun. Then by all means the M&P is a great gun.

You can easily get a front sight like that for your Glocks if that is a big deal to you. I'm not a fan of S&W semi auto's since way back in the 1970s. Yea, I know they are new and improved. I just don't have much confidence in them. Only took up the Glock in the lat 1990s after seeing so many of them in the CCW and self-defense classes I taught. They always worked. Took ten years but I finally bought one of my own. (smile)

between my glock and my m&p's, i like the glock trigger better. it's lighter, crisper, and has a positive reset click.

the mp's don't have a bad trigger by any means. just my preference :)

i've owned glocks and a couple m&p's, a full size 9mm, and the m&p pro 9mm... i don't own the m&p's anymore.

they're great guns, and if glocks really don't fit a person, i recommend them.

that said, their trigger reset just isn't nearly as good as a glock's (actually i'd say the m&p reset is really pretty vague, as opposed to the glock's positive snap/click).
the stock out of the box triggers were probably lighter and smoother on the m&p's compared to a glock's stock trigger (although far mushier in the m&p's case)... but after a $.25 trigger job, that gap gets made up, and then after an $10 switch to a lighter connector (both mods that anyone can do without a trip to a gunsmith) the glock is far and away better (add a $3 stronger trigger spring and you're in a different league altogether...).

to get an m&p to be close to a glock trigger w/ an approximate $13.25 DIY trigger job, you've gotta shell out over $150.00 to send it to S&W for a trigger job and to have their performance center sear + mass. trigger spring installed... and then the reset STILL isn't as good as with the glock's! (yeah... i found out the hard way!)

i like the m&p's a lot, but i really like the fact that any normal guy w/ half a brain can dial in a glock with only a few bucks... JMHO.:D

to chime in on the m&p compact though: a good friend of mine has one and i've shot it quite a bit, the size of it is really good (a bit larger than the baby glock, but not as large as a 19...), great little gun, but again the trigger is still not as good as the glock's, i like being able to dial the glocks in cheaply and easily...

Cousins M&P 9mm has a longer pull, more pressure required, and a longer reset but is a great gun. It just needs trigger work.

My G17 has the trigger safety smoothed, Ghost 3.5 connector, competition trigger spring, and a 4 lb. striker spring. The pre-travel is minimal, over-travel shortened, reset almost immediate, and pull around 3 lbs. I much prefer my G17 over his M&P. I think without the little trigger stuff I have done there wouldn't be much difference accept for the reset. The M&P has a long one...

ive shot both, i perfer the glock trigger, while the M&P has better sights and feels better, givin all id still take the glock

I have 2 glocks but i'm not a glock guy. I don't own an M&P but i've shot them and I liked the one i shot(a 40cal). I don't remember the grip configuration but the gun felt good. Glocks are, as a whole, decidedly unexciting yet wonderful in their execution. You could only make it better by letting a porsche or Ferarri designer loose on a project to take all that makes a Glock reliable and put it into a very sexy frame design. Like the sig 232 or something. A Glock a collector could enjoy.

Funny to hear a glock guy complain about an M&P's spongy trigger when the Glock trigger ranges from spongy to airsoft-esque at best.

A Glock is an AK whereas an M&P is an AR. I dont OWN either nor do I plan to but I have experience with both.

pop goes the top on that tin can o' worms.

The M&P is my favorite polymer pistol. Glocks just don't fit me well, about the only thing I've tried that the fit was so bad it degrades my shooting.

I recently did the trigger job on my own M&P9 and it's great! Smooth and a shorter reset. I'm a new gunsmith and as soon as my FFL comes thru, I'll be doing these along with 1911 work.

My Glock 17 was my favorite gun before I bought the M&P Pro. I've had trigger work done on both guns. With my Glock, I installed the Vanek trigger. Dan Burwell did a trigger job on my M&P. Now I have two favorite guns! I have small hands, so the small-sized backstrap on the M&P does fit me nicely, better than the Glock grip. But I love both guns and don't plan to part with either.

Take this from a newbie shooter:

I held a G26, an M&P9c, a CZ 2075 and a PX4 subcompact. I pretty quickly ruled out the CZ and the PX4, and kept going back and forth between the M&P9c and the G26.

For me: the M&P9c had a better grip angle, but I didn't like how the slide felt significantly wider than the grip. The G26's grip wasn't quite angled as well as the M&P9c's, but it felt more "balanced" to me since the difference between the slide width and the grip width were closer. Of course, YMMV.

The range I went to didn't have either one available as a rental, so I didn't shoot either one and can't comment on the triggers. But they did have a G27 available for rental, so I put 50 rounds through that and thought I could very easily live with the grip angle. I'll find out more this weekend, since the range I'm going to for my Florida CCW class reportedly has both available for rent...as well as a SIG P239...

I have a Glock 17 and have shot M&P's at Smith and Wessons range. I greatly prefer the Glock trigger and I shot them both before I purchased the Glock. My brother has an XD and I like that trigger better than the M&P too. I guess it's just to each their own. They are all better than Sigmas though.

I am a Glock fan, but the S&W M&P series pistols are nice. I shot an M&P .40 compact and I like it very much. I would still prefer the Glock 27 over it, but M&P's are great guns. I would trust my life to one :)

Not trying to hijack your thread, but actually I chose a glock 19 over a M&P 9c for fit. The Glock just felt better (ridiculous, I know). I'll probably get flamed for this, but I grew up on 1911's and don't find the Glock trigger to be that objectionable. Actually, I kind of like it. On the other side of things, I did find that the M&P actually fulfills the sexy part the equation much better than the Glock. Just wasn't enough for me.

to be honest, i prob like my the feel on my glock 19 better than my mp's too.

the glock has a more defined, positive grip. whereas the mp's have a more generic feel to them that you sometimes have to adjust your grip with to find that sweet spot.

I own both, and have shot both stock triggers and properly tweaked triggers on both guns. While trigger pull opinions are very subjective, I think that most people agree that both triggers are in the same ballpark (spongy, vague, creepy) as-issued, but that the M&P's trigger is really improved much more than the Glock's is with fairly simple work. Again, YMMV, but my Compact's trigger is crisp, clean and easy to master.
