I just got a really nice m&p 40 compact in a trade. The thing shoots like a dream and is in perfect shape, but I prefer glocks. If I were to trade a the m&p for a Glock 23 ( or 26, 19, 27, etc) to an individual how much cash (if any) would it be reasonable for me to add? Assume similar condition for each pistol.

I'd assume they are equals.

The price difference would be how much more you want the Glock or how much more the other person wants the M&P.

The way you described the SW, don't trade it. You'll regret it. Tastes change over time. Mine have. Keep it. (I also prefer Glocks, but appreciate the diversity of other guns.)

In .40S&W there generally is an advantage to the S&W, at least if you're not talking Gen 4 Glocks. Remember, the reason for the Gen 4 Glocks was to fix problems with the .40S&W models, the other models just went along for the ride.

Here are Hilton Yam comments…

Same with .40 – the M&P was designed for the .40, with steel chassis for increased rigidity and none of the durability or function issues of the Glock 22.

He has an updated column on the Gen 4 G22 that evens the score somewhat, but I'm not up for searching for it at this time.

Don't use lame cheapo lights on the nose of your Glock. Problem solved. And did Yam mention where I can get spare parts for the M&P? Oh, wait...

My gen3 is every bit as reliable as my gen4 Glock 23. With the abundance of Glock triggers and tuning options, advantage Glock all the way IMO. If you trade, give him half the extra cost of a new Glock over the cost of a new M&P with the trade. Assuming that the Glock is indeed more expensive.

That's not such a great trade if you have to add cash at all. Save your pennies and buy a used glock for $350-$400 and a VP9 and PPQ M2 as well!
