About a Glock23. Does it weaken the mag spring to leave the mags fully loaded while stored? This is my home defense weapon and it is not used much.

my ccw is a g22 and my mags are always loaded. i started carrying it over 2 years ago and haven't noticed any loss of tension yet.

The main thing that really wears springs out is the action of compressing and releasing, if there is no tension for long periods of time, or it is fully compressed for long periods the result will be the same.

Hanzo nailed it. You can do a search on this matter. It is the constant action of compressing and decompressing the spring that wears it out. I leave mine fully loaded. There have been mags loaded from WWII and the springs were just fine 60 years later.

When I go to the range the springs seem to loosen up after shooting. I leave mine loaded and springs are still strong.

I would think that would take years......some rotate magazines every few months to avoid such problems real or imaginary. I would think being plastic new "Glock Perfection" extra mag should not be more then $15 (I'm being generous here).

Glock magazines are steel lined polymer with very well engineered followers and Swiss made springs that are arguably the finest pistol mag in history. Common prices are low to mid twenties.

Come to think of it made in Austria & Switzerland for < $30 isn't all that bad. Lets face it most of the rest are made of some kind of "sheet metal" and some go for $40 or more.

They are designed to be compressed and used fully loaded;) Those who feel price is set based on steel or the new high tech poly are basing it on what???

Regards

The price is based on country of origin and weight of empty magazine. Two examples of expensive magazines are those for P7M8 or 13 and Sig 210.

welcome to thr.

and to answer your question, simply no. compressing and decompressing is what wears out mag springs.
