I was wondering what everyone thinks of slapping a red dot on a Glock?

I recently bought a new G35 USPSA gun and it has a Optima red dot on it. I haven't shot it yet but I really don't like the reticle on it. It looks like it just looks like it is to big and not very defined and really just a blob. When I put my eye right behind the sight it is a very crisp and clear dot, but as I slowly push the gun out to my firing position it gets very blob like and almost blurry. I thought maybe it was me without my glasses, so I put those on and still blob like

Any suggestions to put a new, better sight on there? I hear a lot of talk about Trijicon. I def like the fact that it is slim and the sight doesn't hang over the sides at all making it look sloppy.

If you just some good old normal night sights, get some Trijicons. You can't go wrong.

ultradots are some of the best dots out there and won't break the bank. All the bullseye guys use them. You can get them from Larry's Guns.

Try it first, you use a red dot differently than irons or a scope reticle in that you look through the dot and focus your vision on the target so you shouldn't really be noticing its shape.

Take a photo of the dot with a good camera that can focus close enough on it, if its a sharp circle, problem is your astigmatism.

Not the greatest photo of the J-point on my RIA but the dot is quite round and sharp when photographed, but its a blob to my eyeballs. Works great!

I've got the Trijicon RMR on my FNP-45 Tactical, it uses fiber optics and tritium and doesn't use batteries, but the dot is even larger and selection of mounts for it is very limited, but I really do like it. I'd get more if I could find the mounts.

I had a Burris red dot installed. I instantly became a good shooter, much better than I had ever been. That said, it was a pita to use.

I would like to find a reflex sight with a good reticle and an on/off switch on the grip. I like grid reticles that outline a small MOA dot in color choices.

I took it to the range and shot it. After getting it dialed in I was hitting a baseball size area at 25ish ft. As I walked it out I started getting sloppy. The little book it came with seems to imply the best range is 20yds. I may have to rest the gun up against my bag to get it sighted in, then I'll know it's my fault not the red dot.

The dot seems to be a little more crisp at the indoor range but still not what I would expect out of it. I will look into the UltraDot and the J-Point. I know the Trijicon is far out of my price range. I did notice that actually firing the weapon and looking THROUGH the dot, I stop thinking "oh man that doesn't look right at all" and can actually get a nice grouping.

It was very weird having never used a red dot on a pistol.

they have a frame mount system so you can co-witness the irons, worth looking into in addition to a red dot if that what you want to do

I quite often use a reflex sight (red dot) on my AR15. to get a focused dot I have to wear my prescription glasses. This sight may be telling you something, I need glasses to read, and others to drive with, lucky for me I can focus perfectly at arms reach. Sights in focus, target slightly fuzzy, works well for me.

Glasses on/off didn't make a difference. Sun glasses, shooting, glasses and regular glasses.

I don't know what the "quality" is of that optima sight but i'm thinking it has to be that. Guy at the IDPA comp tonight mention how big and fuzzy it is. So I'm at a loss of what to do. I really like trying things out before I buy but now one around my next of the woods has anything like this.

Either way I need a barrel before I fork over the money for a new sight.

My carry gun has the slide milled for a Trijicon RMR, and has tall suppressor iron back up sights. I am very satisfied with this set up. The RMR is probably the best of type, but it is quite expensive.

I tried a Tasco Optima ProPoint when they 1st came-out (still around here somewhere). There's a reason why they're no longer made. It got fuzzy/ugly too. I think it was a plastic lens. The newer Leop. "Delta Point" has addressed some of the shortcomings with wider FOV & a triangle-shaped aim point (more like an ACOG). The whole triangle is ~5 MOA and used for CQB while the tip-top point is used for finer precision. It's supposed to be a nice set-up but I don't have one.
