I have recently purchased a glock 26 for personal protection. I am in the market for the best and appropriate ammunition. I really like the JHP. Today I purchased 20 rounds of speer gold dot 9mm 115g JHP and 50 rounds of 115g some other cheaper brand round tips for practice.

I put all the bullets through the g26 and found that the cheap round tips were alot more accurate. I hit the dot center on a silhouette target from 8 yards out pretty easy and often.

Well out of all the speer gold dots i put through I couldn't get close to the center at all. Most of my holes ended up on the bottom left of the target. I took my last 2 shots just for the hell of it and i aimed up and to the right toward the silhouettes shoulder and took those shots and got considerably closer to the center then before with those but still not in the X5 red circle...

I don't understand why the gold dots were behaving like this. Is this simply because my g26 doesnt like this specific round? Any explanations and/or knowledge will be greatly appreciated!

I can't tell you whats going on.
Maybe the bullets were a defective lot?

I personally have never had any problems with Speer Gold Dots.
In fact, they have always been very accurate in my experience.

Gold Dot 9mm ammo was always the least accurate ammo in my G26. It was reliable, but the groups were terrible. I had the best accuracy with Golden Saber 124g and Federal HST 124g was ok as well. Even cheap bulk ammo shot tighter groups than the Gold Dot did in my G26. Not sure why, but different guns like different ammo types for different reasons.

The Speer 124 gr +P rounds are pretty accurate in my Sig Pro. Generally a little more accurate than cheap FMJ target ammo. But this is why you should try different brands of SD ammo. I've stuck with Speer since they work and shoot well out of my Sig, though I've been meaning to try some Remington Golden Sabres since they're a bit cheaper.

I appreciate the comments. I have read somewhere before that certain guns have different ammo that work well with them, where as other people have not encountered that problem. Maybe my g26 just doesn't like the speer gold dot 115g.

Also Federal HST is on my list for my next purchase and test run with my g26. I am still learning the differences in ammo so I do know if im going to go with the federal HST 124g or 147g yet. Still figuring out the slow heavy vs fast light deal.

If you are right handed, it may be flinching due to anticipation of recoil. The G26 is a Sub-compact is it not? The Speer Gold dot is a higher pressure, hence more recoil. I shoot the Speer better than most other ammunition, but I have a lot of practice with it vs other SD ammo, ( it was sold in bulk a few years back) and it is my favorite load. I carry compacts vs sub-compacts for good reasons, acccuracy and faster follow up shots on target than it's smaller counterpart. Try the ammunition in question through other pistols and try to shoot it from a rest or sand bag, then you will know.

I just ran about 150 rds of that same ammo through my 26 and it shot perfectly. It did kick a fair bit more than the standard stuff however.

Here's how you could find out for sure if it was the gun, you or the ammo. Have a friend load up some mags with random GDs and your other plinking stuff and note down which came where. Shoot a few mags and see if there's a pattern. If the GDs are grouping and the others are grouping, try something else.

My guess is that it may be the anticipation of the heavier recoil that's getting to you a bit.

Buy both and try them, as Jed suggested, from the benchrest position. That will help eliminate any potential issues with the shooter and let you see if there's any major difference in the ammo.

Generally slower heavier ammo will impact higher than faster lighter ammo. You will need to see what works best in your G26 and impacts at your point of aim. In the grand scheme of things, it probably isn't going to make a huge difference provided you can hit what you're aiming at.

Yea, I understand that shot placement is important. Training to become a better marksman is priority over what type of ammunition.

I'm going to buy the HST. I have seen lots of good things about them. But I do have another question about it. which would recoil more, 124g or 147g?
