Probably a .270, or on the larger end a 30-06. But a .270 really is a do all cartridge. Can use it for varmints and coyotes, also does deer well, and can do elk (my wife's first elk was with a .270). It is a great middle range cartridge.
Look for 7-08 ,280 , or 270 winny. Great thin skined calibers and black bear. Easier on the shoulder and with the 7-08 a short action rifle with a shorter barrel.
Hate to be a spoil sport but you could just down load your .300 Win Mag to gain versatility. I am currently working up a 110 grain TTSX load for mine.
But really whats the fun in that when you could get a new toy.
So add a vote for the .280 REM.
