Was wondering how legal it would be to travel with an old single shot 12ga. in the vehicle? I figure it is the least threatining "looking" fire-arm I own.

Would be traveling from Texas through Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and arriving in Florida.

Don't have a CHL, or plan on carrying a hand gun. Just wanting to bring 'ole
Bess along for the ride. You never know what you may run into....... and it would serve as a comfort when sleeping at a hotel.

There are a few websites that talk about carrying handguns when traveling, but I have yet to find one that has any information on long guns.

Any info. would be appreciated.

Here's some info on long guns:

Texas:loaded long guns may be carried anywhere in vehicle.

Louisiana:loaded long guns may be contained in commercial gun cases that are located just about anywhere in passenger compartment or trunk. Not on ones person however.

Mississippi:loaded long guns may be carried in vehicle regardless of whether in plain view or concealed.

Alabama:loaded long guns may be carried in plain view or gun cases.

Florida:long guns may be concealed and loaded provided they are securely encased or otherwise not readily acessible.
