I live in MS, close to the Lousyana border. I own a suppressor and an SBR. There is a shooting pit that we frequent just on the other side of the state line, literally less than a mile across the state line. Actually, the exit off the highway is two miles from LA still in MS. But by the time I travel the dirt road through the woods I end up actually in LA territory.

Whats the deal with carrying my suppressor and sbr over there for a day at the range? Obviously I will also my F4/stamps in hand.

You need an approved Form 5320.20 to cross a state line with an SBR. You have to have the approved copy back from ATF before you can move the firearm.

No problem for suppressors.

This all assumes the items are legal in both states of course.

Gun laws make no sense, don't even try to ask "why".

Is the 5320 a one time deal or is it good for as long as I own the items and plan on visiting that state?

It's not open ended. You didn't think it would be that easy did you? :)

3. Dates firearm(s) will be away from original location, if to be returned to that location, (or dates in transit, if to be permanently relocated).
From (month, day, year) To (month, day, year)

Approval authorizes the registered owner to transport the designated firearm(s) only during the time period specified in item 3.

I have heard, though I have never done it myself, that ATF will approve Form 20's with multiple dates up to a year out. That's just going off various online comments, hopefully someone has tried it and can say for sure.

That is why I dont care to own a SBR, aside from it being less effective as a rifle, it keeps you tied to the Feds and is a reason they can make your day go bad if you dont follow thoroughly the goofy laws. At least with suppressors you need no more contact with The Man when moving.

I always call the State police, of the state I am going into, before traveling with any firearm. I also keep the number in my phone along with the name of how I spoke with.

Louisiana state police number is 225-925-4867

You are ok with the suppressor but need paper work for anything else.
