I am going to try and take advantage of the deal this week from xtreme, and was unsure of which to get.

40s&w loading with autocomp out of a glock 23 and 27

Looking at 180g rnfp vs 180 HP.
My goal is plinking with decent accuracy and moderate recoil/moderate load. Is the $8 worth it for hollow points for a longer projectile and bearing surface?

I run the 180gr RNFP over top of some HP-38. It certainly isn't the ideal powder, but it is what I had and what I could find. I was very please to see that they shot about the size of a baseball at 20 yards over 6 different powder charges.

The RNFP seems to run smoothly and cause me no issues out of an STI Eagle 6.0 Limited gun. The snap is extremely reasonable on that pistol with the said bullet, but will be felt differently based on the platform. I'm not a Glock guy, so I can't really be of help with that suggestion. I do enjoy the 180 RNFP though and have loaded many since switching to them.

For plinking, I'd stick with plain, simple, and cheap(er).

I saw no difference between the two bullets in my pistol and so I stuck with the RNFP. For what it is worth, I also use the RNFP style bullet in a few other calibers and they perform the same way at the 180!

I've used both the FPs and the HPs. I can't really tell the difference, so I just buy whatever happens to be cheaper.

With Xtreme, Berry, and Ranier I've found absolutely zero difference in accuracy between fnfp and hp. I would just shoot the rnfp. I shoot the standard plate Xtreme and find it to be the best bang for the buck. I load the 180gr for .40 for major USPSA and the 124gr in 9mm for IDPA minor pf.

Thanks for the replies. I will end up with 180rnfp I guess, its a plinking load but I don't enjoy shooting if I can't get a decent group.

I just started loading for my XD40-525. So here are my unqualified results. The 180 Xtreme RNFP with 5.2gr of SR7625 has given me my best 25 yard, 5 round group so far, off a sandbag of 2.88". I also have loaded and tested 4 other bullets so far. All with the same powder which was all I had at the time. The only load that has beat that so far is Black Hills 180 gr. FMJ factory with a 2.76" group. OK, so I am a lousy pistol shooter, or still trying to figure this gun out. But I liked the 40 Xtreme so much, I bought a box of 110 gr. RN's for my M1 Carbines. Looking forward to learning more about this brand of bullet from this thread.

Gator, not sure what the accuracy promiseof the xd is, but I would be very happy with a 4" 25 yd sandbagged group,

Rsfp for sure. Hp's dont have any terminal ballistic qualities with plated bullets imho. Accuracy diff? Unknown.

rsfp = round shoulder flat point

I just purchased 500 of each 9mm 124 RN HPCB, 38 125FP no Cannelure, & 10/40 165 RNFP from Xtreme - I usually reload Berry's but I'm going to give these a try. Ordered last Friday 5/2 and still waiting on shipping info. I'll finish up what Berry's I have as well as some MBC's and then workup loads for these.

Iturford it may take a little longer than normal to get your order since they have the shipping special. I normally order mine on Fridays, and they arrive at my door step by Wednesday. I know I made a order last Nov when they had the 15% off sale, and it took about a week & half to get them. I think you will like them. I used Berry's for a while till I found XTreme.

Thanks gahunter - I've looked at my order on line and it says processing. I'm in no rush so if they take a little longer than normal it's not a problem. Good thought though that they are busy due to the shipping promo. I do like the hollow base Berry's. I hope these shoot well too.

It seems this sale has slowed their shipping a little. I ordered 3K various sizes on 5/2 and just got shipping info today.

I'm not complaining....just putting it out there for others to know what to expect.

Ordered on the 6th and shipped today, three day turn around is fine with me. Now lest see how long UPS takes.

I found an awesome load for the 180 gr using both Berry's and Xtreme FP with Autocomp =5.9gr 1.125" was accurate and burned clean. Moderate recoil. Enjoy!

I ordered 500 of the 180 rsfp's a couple weeks ago, the price was very reasonable and the shipping was pretty quick. So far I've loaded up 250 over 4.6 gr of HP-38, I'm quite pleased, accuracy and function is excellent and the recoil is quite pleasant. I'll definitely be following up this order with another one, I might even throw in some 135 gr 9mm for kicks.
