I will post this more as a personal dilemna than anything else.
I live in Las Vegas and this weekend we are driving to San Diego for a funeral and after that on to Ensenada, Mexico for a couple days. I HATE not having my pistol in my car (it is legal to carry loaded in a car in Las Vegas)! I'm sure it is against the law to have it in your car in California AND Mexico,right?! Haha
That sucks! I feel so much more secure when I'm on the road when I have my sidearm! Ok, that's my rant for today. Thank God I'm an American citizen.

If you get caught in Mexico with so much as 1 loose .22 rimfire round you will spent a lot of really unpleasant time in a realllllyy bad Third World jail. Do NOT, I repeat, DO NOT take any guns or ammo to Mexico!!!!!!!
 
I know I know I just had to rant and make a wish that there was a magical change in the law that I didn't know about!

You can't even possess spent brass in Mexico without a permit! Seriously, clean you vehicle out of anything remotely firearms related before crossing the border - otherwise you're in for a very unpleasant stay in a Mexican prison. Obtaining a pistol permit is next to impossible for Mexican citizens let alone an American. A pistol permit will let you carry any "non military" caliber. So, no .45, 9mm, 7.62 x 25 Tokarev, etc. The permit would allow you to tote a .38 super at maximum. Rifle/shotgun permits are much easier to obtain but are only good for posession of the registered firearm on hunting land which you have obtained permission to be on. If you would like more specifics on Mexican firearms law, I would suggest phoning up the Mexican Consulate to inquire about it.

Keep your eyes and ears open when you're down there. Bring good running shoes.
 
Don't do it in CA either. Take the bullets out of your mags, or it'll still be considered a "loaded weapon".

Don't forget your passport to Mexico, or you aint' gettin' back in.
 
A lot of countries tend to frown on arms smuggling and mete out correspondingly long prison terms. "Country-club" prisons are in short supply in Mexico.
 
Have you been to Ensenada before? There are some really nice places in Mexico, Ensenada is not one of them.
 
Reading the previous comments makes me wonder why you want to go to Mexico?
 
Haha. My mother in law has a yacht in Ensenada... that is the ONLY reason we are going down there.
I knew starting this thread would get some of your all riled up! :neener:
