Is there any difference in a 9mm between the performance of these two bullets? Which do you prefer? Thanks, Dennis

Remington Golden Saber: http://www.remington.com/products/ammunition/ballistics/results/default.aspx?type=pistol&cal=6

Speer Gold Dot: http://www.speer-ammo.com/ballistics/ammo.aspx

The numbers are about the same so it comes down to which shoots better in Your Pistol. As you probably know, ammo will perform differently in different pistols so buy a box or two of each and go to the range. The ammo that doesn't fail and is closest to POA=POI will be the ammo to use. You should fire at least 100 rounds of that ammo before you stake your life on it. (IMO of course)

i've shot them both, my totally informal, based on nothing opinion, is i like golden sabers better, because they are cheaper.

i think that all the modern hollow points work 'well enough' so long as they feed well. after that it's up to you. the GS allow me to run a mag or two of the ammo every now and again and are really reasonable to reload

The hole in the nose of the Golden Sabres seems to be smaller than that in the Gold Dots and so they feed much more reliably in my 40VE. They also don't seem to have nearly the recoil of the Gold Dots. Feel pretty much the same as my practice ammo. Not to mention the Golden Sabres are much cheaper. For those reasons they're my carry ammo of choice at the moment.

+1 on the Remington Golden Sabers they feed reliably and have a good expansion record. That's what I keep in my mags.

In my own expansion testing and chronographing, the Golden Sabres in all weights were faster, had larger expanded diameters, and deeper penetration.
They will occasionally shed some of the jacket petals,if that's important to you. The Gold Dots stay together regardless.

I have not shot the Speer Gold Dot in 9MM, but I have shot the Golden Saber and like it a lot. A whole lot. :)

no 9mm

I don't have a 9mm but they look just like xtps and I am a Hornady man, my .44mags have never failed.
and they blow almost and inch hole with bullet weight intact, however if memory and speer website serve the le use gold dot which means absolutely nothing to me.
they use mediocre rounds with good ammo in mediocre weapons, I am not impressed.
I would like to know what our military uses in pistols.

I use the 124 grain Speer Gold Dots in my Hi Power. I have had Golden Sabers separate (45 ACP), so I ended my association with them. The Speer Gold Dots have never separated on me - in any caliber.

In my ballistic clay tests, both the Gold Dot nad Golden Sabre performed very similarly. I prefer Golden Sabres for one reason; The smaller diameter in front of the driving band allows the case to be crimped further. This has proven more reliable for feeding in ALL of my pistols, even the more finicky ones. My standard carry/HD loads are all Golden Sabres, be it .380, 9x19, .40, 10mm or .45ACP.

I wouldnt feel bad at all with Golden Sabers, but Gold Dots get my pick for several reasons.

First, it is actually cheaper if you look around. 50 round boxes of Gold Dots can be had for $15 or so a box, and its factory new Speer.

Second, the Golden Sabers, from the testing I have seen, have problems with jacket/core separations, even in bare gelatin. I have no experience testing this ammo, so I cant say for myself, but it is a pretty common occurance.

Third, the Gold Dots are much better through barriers such as auto glass, metal, bone, ect. Penetration through most materials seems to be higher and the velocity is a little higher, which might not make much of a difference, but it couldnt hurt it.

I keep my Glock 19 loaded with 147 grain Gold Dots, and used to keep my Bersa .380 loaded with Gold Dots until I did a gelatin test myself, and found that Federals Hydrashok meets the 12 inch penetration requirement. However, I occasionally switch from HP to FMJ, and today, it happens that my magazine is loaded with FMJFP.

as you get more (box of 25) for your money, than with the Gold Dots (box of
20)~!

Buy Gold Dots from DoubleTap...currently 23 or 24 dollars per box of 50 in 9mm, which is cheaper than buying the Speer branded Gold dot or Rem Golden Saber. And you get the awesome DT ballistics!

I just recently switched to DT in my 1911's as my primary HD ammo. It's great stuff, so I assume the 9mm stuff is just as good. :)
