I am really wanting to try out some Golden West Bullets in 9mm and 223. I would like to try the 124gr for 9mm since my CZ75 seems to like that weight and th 55gr in 223 because I have an AR with a 1:9 twist and that should be fine. If I understand correctly the bullets are actually brass jacketed instead of copper? I suppose brass is softer than copper and a little sturdier than copper plated so these could work out well and the prices seem pretty reasonable. Anyone have any experience with these or feedback? Thanks.

I've never used their bullets, but they've advertised in The Shotgun News for several years, so they've been around. They appear to be jacketed bullets, rather than plated.
Actually, gilding metal jackets are harder than pure copper, which makes them tougher.

Yes, quite a few of the members at my club, including myself have purchased from Golden West. I've only used their 9mm 147 and 22cal 55gr. I've had no problems with the bullets. I purchased them in person via pickup from the location since I'm about an hours drive away.
I can't comment on accuracy as far as the 55gr 22cal is concerned, but it seemed to be fine for just throwing stuff downrange. The stuff is no better nor worse than say Hornady 55gr FMJBT or Winchester 55gr FMJ. The 22cal 55gr bullet by Golden West is an exposed base BT with cannelure. Just like the standard 55gr bullet found on M193.
And no, the bullets are copper jacketed. I don't know why you would think they were brass jacketed. I've never heard of a brass jacketed bullet.

A couple of years ago I talked to a company that was experimenting with brass plated bullets at the SHOT Show in Las Vegas. They later abandoned the use of brass, since it's more expensive than copper and didn't exhibit any qualities superior to copper for the intended purpose.

I have a few hundred of their 168gr .30 caliber bullets. The location of the ogive is all over the place. They're okay for plinking, but not for precision work.

Yeah, I think I mixed up the brass jacketed companies. ocabj, I am very interested in what you get accuracy wise and load data you might want to share. I don't know how well the 147 works in a CZ75 since I have never loaded heavier than 124gr which gave me decent results with the Winchester bulk. I have a CZ75 and my wife uses a Sig 226. As for the 223 rounds I buy the more pricey Speer 52gr BTHP Match for my accuracy load but I would be more than happy with cheaper bullets that could get me an inch at 100...will these do it? Thanks.

David, the son, now runs the business and he isn't quite as "friendly" in his pricing to repeat customers as his father was.
I used to buy the .45 200 gr. RN, since he didn't make SWC's. They shot fine but I don't find them as accurate as the Rainier SWC's I now load. Keep in mind that brass jacketed bullets are harder than copper jackets.

In handguns, most of you guys have probably used a brass jacketed hollowpoint already unless you've never fired a Remington Golden Saber. It has a Brass Jacket.
