Hey, I just recently bought a handgun a few months ago and am constantly looking for the next gun, I think I am wanting a 1911 style, maybe short enough for cc, and at least 10 rds

is there anything anyone knows of? i saw the recent thread with the rockisland guns, but the ones for 400 looked to cheesy. I want something fancier then just black polymer or steel now. any ideas ?thanks

Good luck, quality is never cheap.

The closest thing I would bet on is the Taurus 1911 line, but those are also $600 or so.

I am not sure you can buy much of anything in the price range you got, unless it's a cheap Polymer gun.

The Rock Island 1911s get very good reviews and meet your price range.

yes, i would go with the RIA. of course, if you're anything like me, then OD green is a nice fancy color. there is a springfield GI model that comes in OD green and also fits somewhere in your price range.

Well... If you are looking for a short 1911, you are looking at a compact or officers model, with the right mag that gives you 7+1.
I CC and OC my fullsize RIA 1911 daily.
If you dont like the all black/parkerized... you could get one like mine ;)

Mine is a Rock Island Tactical in brushed nickel with a parked slide.
I really like the Armscor pistols :D

Hi,

Never rule out a fine used weapon either! You can find them sometimes at handgun matches. Guys get tired of something and trade for something else. They are all enthusiasts and generally know what things are worth and they trade and sell at wonderfully fair prices!

If you are patient and persistent, you can also find good ones at gun shows and guns stores in your geographic AREA. Make friends at the various gun shops and let those folks know what you are looking to buy (and at what price). Then, when they get in a trade, they may call you for "first refusal," before the gun ever goes in the case! I've gotten several guns this way . . . and the store gets an immediate turn around on their trade!

Then . . . never rule out the classifieds on this forum . . .

Here's a nice, like brand-new Para Ordinance P14.45 LDA Limited that I picked up on THIS forum last week. It turned out the seller only lived 50 miles from me, and we met at a town in-between. Great guy too, and the gun is as accurate as he said it was.

The price of this top-of-the-line "Limited" version (with ambidextrous safety and target sights . . . a $1,250 retail cost gun today, that was made in Oct. 2003 and had less than 150 rounds through it)? $600

It came with the box, packing materials, the two 10 round magazines and ADDITIONAL two brand new high capacity Para magazines too. A very fair price all the way around.

And he was right . . . the gun is VERY accurate, just as he said . . . (Distance: 10 yards, shot at 1" black squares on a single sheet of copy paper).

One of the groups is less than 3/4" and the largest measures an inch. Plus, it was windy as heck and I've only run one type of ammo through it (cheap Wally-World Remington yellow box bulk FMJ).

Since you didn't mention that it has to be new, then for that price range, you may want to consider used.

Para p14.45 Gun Rights model. Might be able to find it used. I do not like the LDA style. I like SA only. Just my preference, but i hate the trigger. Im not saying anything bad about it but I like the type of trigger on mine better. Dont know why for sure but always have.

A nice solid forged steel Colt for $450. :

Chip McCormick 10 round mag - $25.

Never will fail.

Yes it is, notorious. I've been pleasantly surprised, for it is more accurate than the 1990 era Colt Combat Elite that I eventually had tricked all out as a limited race gun about ten years ago. I eventually shot that fine handgun loose after goodness who knows how many tens of thousands of .45ACP rounds down the tube.

I'm still ambivalent about the LDA trigger. It's promoted as a great trigger for those who love double action revolvers, which definately includes me . . . since I do my best gun games matches shooting S&W revolvers double action. So . . . I'm gonna keep an open mind but I do believe it would be a great type trigger for both self defense AND for use in the gun games. I'll find out this spring!

I do know this . . . in dry fire practice, coming up from the "low ready," the trigger breaks perfectly every time as I stage the trigger during the raising of the weapon onto the target . . . much like I love about rolling the cylinder of a revolver between targets so that the trigger breaks exactly as the sights come on line with the next target. So many folks "milk" (jerk the gun down, trying to anticipate the recoil) their single action autos in matches and "dig dirt." The LDA will make this 1911, I HOPE, quite similar to the smooth shooting of a S&W revolver.

Time will tell!

T.

My P14.45 is not the LDA but the 1911 double stack version that has been tricked out to full IDPA with the Bo-Mar sights and action work and all the other parts like the beavertail and junk... I guess it's de rigeur to have on any serious 1911.

Hey FoMoGo, Jim, how much did that gun run for? I like it alot.

Any more ideas? thanks for the tips
