I was at dinner last night with my family and my brother divulged that he had voted for Biden in the primary. I mentioned the comment that Biden made months ago, and my brother agreed with Biden commenting that he loved how "Joe Biden says it how it is." and "He's (my brother's) kind of guy."

Anyways, I looked up the old comment and found this article which was interesting in some of the comments made:

http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=ZTVmNGI0MmVmMDFlYmZiODdhYzM4ZjIwYjhlNDU3MTk=

of interest is how the author pointed out that not a single other member spoke out against Biden's comments. Nobody stopped him and corrected him, and I hadn't even realized that Cooper made a snide comment too.

I don't want people to start a real political discussion about this because they inevitably end in flame wars (plus it's old news anyways). I just basically found an interesting article that I wanted to share. That's all.

.cheese, thank you for reminding us about this incident.
Cooper has no shame of course and what politician has shot himself more in the foot with his big mouth than Joe Biden?
The whole incident was an indictment of the Democratic Party's leaders(?)attitude towards the meaning of the Second Amendment.

I remember that incident:

“Good evening, America. My name is Jered Townsend from Clio, Michigan,” the YouTube citizen questioner began. “To all the candidates, tell me your position on gun control, as myself and other Americans really want to know if our babies are safe.” Townsend then pulled out his Bushmaster AR-15. “This is my ‘baby,’ purchased under the 1994 gun ban. Please tell me your views. Thank you.”

Although I've no high opinion of Biden, I won't defend the indefensible. Townsend looked and behaved like an idiot. Biden treated him like one. Gun owners who don't want to be treated like idiots should not behave like idiots.

Guns are not "babies." They are firearms.

Biden is an idiot, but I don't appreciate the anti-Democrat sentiment that's all too common on a forum that's supposed to be "the high road."

There's always a bad apple in every group.

A man vain enough to go for hair plugs does not need to be President. Plus the plugs are failing. Old middle aged metrosexuals are not appealing.

That Biden is a Democrat is just incidental. If he was a Republican or Libertarian he'd still be an idiot.
This not bashing a Dem.This is bashing a fool.
The GOP has its own share of idiots as John Warner,Mike DeWine,Larry Craig,William Cohen and many others have aptly proven.

Granted. But Biden is still a vacuumed headed fool.

No argument, but this thread is about his response to an idiot gun owner behaving like an idiot in public. Even "a vacuumed headed fool" can make an appropriate statement, and Biden's comment about the idiot was appropriate. Let's not try to elevate the king of fools into a folk hero.

I am truly sorry that you don't appreciate the anti-Democrat sentiment that's all too common here. Perhaps your school has an "anti-Democrat appreciation" course that can help you expand your horizons. You'll surely find life much more rewarding if you learn to see the destructive directions of the current Democratic Party, steered mainly by knaves and fools. Both of its two potential nominees for the Presidency have made racism and sexism their chief political issues while successfully convincing its followers that somebody else did it. This political party is in the process of encouraging block voting along racial and gender lines. It's disgraceful. Learn to appreciate it.

In the meantime I do see that the forum and all its other members must change immediately to conform to your preferences. Why not just order them to do it. It would produce more immediate results than your hints about their need to change.

In return, would you mind correcting out the Earth's wobble as it rotates around you? It could be causing excessive wear on the pivot or the universal joint. Or perhaps you can get someone else to do it for you.

I see that you'll be 21 years old on May 13. It must be awfully irritating to be amongst so many yucky older people who think wrong. Be compassionate towards us. After all, we just don't have your knowledge, experience, or intellectual capabilities.

Wow, that was a very high road comment. Maybe we can further divide up gun-owners by finding other issues to attack each other over

That said, both Biden and the youtube guy are idiots.

My comment? It seemed an appropriate response to a lad who doesn't like people in this forum to say what he doesn't like. I've seen it before. Sorry you disagree. Interesting to see tolerance urged for intolerance, though.

I'm glad to see this article. I come from a long line of Democrats, coming from a Scots-Irish family of migrant workers, farmers and sharecroppers who traveled from Arkansas to California post-Dust Bowl. My grandfathers of at least 3 generations were Democratic voters, and all of them were strictly pro-2nd Amendment. They all owned guns, guns were part of their livelihood.

I'm glad to see this author sticking up for Democrats who do own guns. He points out numbers suggesting a quarter of Democrats are gun owners. This is startling considering the party's history and its current platform towards guns. It really is sad for the big guys to speak so adamantly against guns in the party when 1/4 of their voters are gun owners and true supporters of the 2A.

The sad fact is, these guys can say all this BS because they already have power. The 2A is about putting power to the people, and since he's already in a high echelon of society in which he does have power, he needn't the right to bear arms. Therefore he wants the monopoly on power, he wants all the guns on his side, and he can't guarantee that when anyone and everyone is allowed the right to bear arms.

Anyways, not getting political here--I'm an independent voter and don't currently support any of the major presidential campaigns. I dissent from the Democratic party on their issue towards guns. Just wanted to say thanks for posting it, I'm glad someone's in the interest of the minority.

I remember this shameless stunt. Tell me, just how does one get a rifle into a room full of potential presidential candidates, especially when one of them has Secret Service protection, unless it's a stunt? It wouldn't surprise me to learn that this idiot with the Bushmaster was Biden's nephew. Seriously, that's how deceiptful the antis are. I wouldn't put it past them at all.

And it was just a couple of weeks ago that Hillary came out trying to sound like one of us, telling stories about hunting and target shooting with her father. Obama (former Constitutional-Law professor) piped in shortly thereafter, saying that 2A described an individual right. Then, in his next breath, he supported the DC gun ban. I guess the Constitution doesn't apply to residents of DC, except for Josh Sugarmann.

These politicians are no better than..............politicians. :barf:

One more thing

Guys, this isn't really a Democrat vs Republican thing. There are lots of pro-gun Democrats. Most of my friends and I are.

And apparently there are anti-gun Republicans, like Paul Helmke for instance:what:.

From his Huffpo blog-

Paul Helmke has served as President of the Brady Campaign/Center to Prevent Gun Violence since mid-July 2006. Prior to this, Helmke was a lawyer in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he served as mayor from 1988-2000.

Helmke was President of the United States Conference of Mayors in 1997-1998 and served on the Board of the National League of Cities. He is a past-President of the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns and the national Republican Mayors and Local Officials organization. Helmke was the Republican nominee for the United States Senate in Indiana in 1998.

A native of Indiana, Helmke received his B.A. from Indiana University in 1970 and his J.D. from Yale University in 1973. Helmke and his wife, a public school kindergarten teacher, have two grown daughters.

I think the main point to take away is that none of the other candidates even said a word. Which to me means that either they disagreed but were too afraid to speak up for some reason, or, they all agreed with Biden.

I don't really think the guy who asked the question was an idiot. He could have asked it better, I grant you that, but other than that he just seemed like a super enthusiastic gun collector. I know people who refer to model trains and/or RC Helis as "my baby" - so this doesn't just apply to this one guy.

Would Biden have made a comment about an RC Heli owner, calling into question whether he is "Mentally qualified" to control the heli? No. Because that would be unbelievably politically incorrect and rude. He'd be making fun of those who truly suffer from mental illness, and he's making fun of somebody for having a hobby he doesn't share.

Yet, if we take the model-train, or the RC heli away, and substitute it for an EBR, all of a sudden "he needs help" and he isn't "Mentally qualified" and nobody else debating nor the audience is offended by such comments that would be taken COMPLETELY differently in any other context.

Democrats - Republicans... I don't care about party differences at the end of the day. Helmke, Bloomberg, and Schwarzenegger are respected just as little by me as anybody else who tries to ignore one of our most important civil liberties.

What I do care about is how politicians regardless of their party affiliation are actively trying to make gun-ownership a stigma. Or worse, a disease one should seek treatment for.

mike101, the YouTube debate meant that people would video tape their questions and then send them to the network. THe network then decided which ones to use, so the guy didn't have his AR at the debate. Only in his video.
